I tried a few things, battery, weather stations etc.

Seems including delivery from the UK is about 20% cheaper than most prices in the branch in Limerick.

Not sure of delivery times etc but certainly worth checking.

Are you sure they deliver to Ireland? Am pretty sure they used to only deliver to UK

    Yes, checked and double checked.

    'Delivery

    Is there a delivery charge?
Delivery is free (within the UK mainland) for all orders over £35 inclusive of VAT. For orders under £35 inclusive of VAT a small order charge will be levied. The current charge is £2.99.

When will I receive my order?
Your goods will arrive within 1-3 working days (Monday to Friday but exclusive of Bank Holidays) subject to successful credit card authorisation.

I need my order delivered quickly. Are there any guaranteed next day delivery options available?
There are next day delivery options available (up until 5pm) at the checkout stage. Please note: these options are only available when all items in your basket are in stock.

    Overseas delivery?
Carriage will be charged on orders involving Export at the appropriate rate prevailing at the date of despatch. The Customer is responsible at their own expense to obtain any import or export license or any other documentation deemed necessary by any compliant authority.'

I wouldn't be surprised if after putting the order through, they subsequently cancelled the order and told you to buy from Maplin in Ireland. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Have'n't seen any mention of delivery to Ireland.

On the top of their delivey page here it states:

'What delivery options are available?(All of the delivery options are for UK only)'

    Hopefully I am wrong too

I have ordered from them in the past and have had my items delivered without any problems. Mind you it was around this time last year that I ordered from them last, and it was definitely the UK site.

Maplins DO deliver to Ireland. Works out cheaper buying online from them.Delivery is not too bad at all. Round €7 & DHL get the goods to you within 3-4 days of purchasing!

Note: I bought a external HD which was faulty a few weeks ago & I brought it back to a brick & mortar store with no problems exchanging it!

Yes I just did a dummy buy to check the system. The item was listed at 149.99 sterling. At checkout the price was broken down to base price of 130.42stg, post and package 7.23stg and vat of 29.59stg which equates to the Irish vat rate of 21.5 percent.

Well now I am glad I was wrong. It is good to know this for the future. Maplins are usually expensive, but some they have good sale deals.

Am not sure what you mean. They changed the price to £160 from £149?

The weather station I am about to buy saves me €30 (plus the batteries savings) about €50 cheaper in all.

This was on the nod from someone who has already done this recently (not even opened the box yet!).

Aye, drives me mad though. When are the stores going to sort the currency issue out.

    Easy enough.

Make all the UK products a conversion of the Euro price rather than the other way round.

    ;)

The price in the Uk is £149 with free delivery. Under EU rules they must charge the vat rate of the country of the purchaser. There is a 6.5 percent difference between Uk and Irish vat rates. Postage is £7.

When I buy from 'small' UK sites I usually pay 17% vat (now 15%). But seeing as Maplins have an Irish Vat number, I understand.

Don't forget the Maplin Vouchers. I think you get them by signing up for their Newsletter. I get mine emailed to me every few months.

The vouchers effectively cancel the postage costs for any purchase over €100.

ch750536, I know this is off topic but why are you promoting buying from Maplin UK considering what you have in your signature??

    A fair question.

Tesco are market dominators. I know they may seem to sell just groceries but they never stop. In places in the UK they have prescription services, opticians, even funeral services.

If we in ireland gave the same level of our cash to them as they do in the UK it would be like a very leaky pipe in the economy, due to a number of factors (will go into this in PM but not here).

I don't have an issue with the occasional purchase of things from anywhere else in the world, I have to do this myself from time to time, I am against sending a large percentage of our GDP to any other country that does not have any of our best interests at heart.

For the record, I am also a strong believer in buying local and source almost all I need from my local town (meat in Tralee though, Sullivans is quality) and quality is higher, cost lower than Tesco.

Well Dunnes is going to the Brits now, apart from super value, where can we shop?

Tried to place an order on their website and it appears they don't accept Wirecard  - they must be the first ones that don't accept it!!!
And needles to say that they don't take irish Maestro/Laser card.
