I'm there on business for two weeks in Jan. Wondering is there anything in the town to do over the weekend? Thinking of taking in a Inverness Cali Thistle match. but aside from that...

in january it will be cold, i doubt any loch ness tours are running that time of year. there are plenty of walks around town to do if well wrapped up; south by the river ness and west by the caledonian canal, up through the forest and hills which overlook the town.

there may be highland tours still running, again i don't know about that time of year, the Culloden Battlefield site is not far from inverness. there is a castle in the middle of town though it looks newly built :(

there are plenty of good bars and clubs in town anyway so nightlife isn't a problem but it can be rough on a matchday or saturday night

If you ski, you're close to some good slopes. Actually, you're close to them even if you don't ski, but......:pac:
I'd personally recommend Aonoch Mor near Fort William, good slopes & facilities, worth taking the gondola up just for the view on a clear day. About 90 mins by bus. And Fort William is OK for a night out at that time of year.

Inverness is a pretty big town, actually a city since 2000. You'll find pretty much every kind of entertainment there.

But like Rossie hinted at, one of the most popular pastimes in Inverness is beating the crap out of each other, so apply common sense when you're trawling the pubs at night!

I dont know how to work this quote malarky but i just laughing to see big b here!! Indeed Nevis Range is fab...worked few years there and believe they are having a pretty good season thus far. The views from the Gondolas are fab and if you are keen mtn biker there is world class downhill(though think closed at mo) and fab cross country at the base of the mountain..and yeah Fort William is grand for a night out..Achintee up Glen Nevis a good alternative to town!
Dont know much about Inverness as since being born there have only gone on teenage booze cruises (from portree to inverness and back in one day..ugh) but the coast is nice..If you can you should check out findhorn.
    Enjoy
