How to properly set up PS3 Audio

    Hi all,

    I'm trying to set up the audio on my new PS3. Its connected to my HD TV with a HDMI cable. I also have a Sony Digital Audio Control Centre with 5.1 speakers.

    I have the PS3 connected to the control centre with an optical cable.

    When I set the PS3 Audio to run through the HDMI, the sound comes out of the TV only.

    When I set it to optical, theres no sound from the TV, just the 5.1 speakers.

    Is there any way to have the sound running through both, or should I be using one or the other?

    One or the other.

    Surely you'd prefer the better audio quality from the surround sound package than the standard tv speakers?

    The speakers on the TV are actually really good, so I was just seeing could I put them into the mix too.

    nah, the PS3 can only output the sound from hdmi OR optical, not both. what TV is it? some tvs have an optical output so you could go HDMI (with audio) to the TV, then optical from TV to the sony thing.

    Its a Phillips HD ready, no optical out though. Not to worry, Im getting used to the one or the other so its fine!
