Rightio this is my first thread in Christianity so don't bite me please! I've found out i'm related to Cardinal Heenan but don't know too much about him other than it was down to himself that the mosaics didn't get finished at Westminster abbey as he felt the money was better diverted to the missions. So i'm wondering what is your opinion on this, was it destroying Christian art or was it putting money where the Christian mouth is?

Also if anyone has any more info on him i'd be interested. The family doesn't seem to know much other than -very nice man and -buried in westminster :pac:

Fanny, you must be too young to remember John Carmel Cardinal Heenan, who died in 1975! He was Basil Hume's predecessor as Archbishop of Westminster. He's buried in Westminster Cathedral (not the Abbey).

Something that Wikipedia doesn't mention is that Heenan was responsible, when he was Archbishop of Liverpool, for commissioning the building of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral (also known as "Paddy's Wigwam").

    I feel young again!

Thats himself! He's buried under the twelfth station of the cross in westminster cathedral. The family thought his middle name was funny and only referred to him as carmel-poor chap!
