Bad ping - rain?

I'm getting pretty bad latency this evening - pinging boards.ie is around 400ms, sometimes 500ms. The web is not so much fun, pages are taking ages to load. Trying to listen to an internet radio stream, cuts out regularly. I've never known it quite so bad before. However, tested a download off heanet, it settled down to about 310 kb/s, which is not too bad. So I have good download speed but crap latency.

I'm on the digiweb 3 mb DSL package.

Heavy rain here, could this be causing the latency problems (dampness in the lines)? Or is it Friday night congestion?

    Here's a tracert:

    Tracing route to boards.ie [89.234.66.107]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 412 ms 366 ms 347 ms ip-83-147-130-254.dsl.digiweb.ie [83.147.130.254]
    3 298 ms 297 ms 295 ms gi-5-2.dub-bdtn-ar4.net.digiweb.ie [89.234.82.202]
    4 320 ms 308 ms 307 ms ip-89-234-66-107.dedi.digiweb.ie [89.234.66.107]

    Trace complete.

    Thanks.

Ok. Never noticed it so bad before though. Attempted to watch some rugby streamed over the internet, it was a no go.

Don't suppose there's any point complaining to Digiweb?

Just done another ping to boards.ie, average 84ms now.

I was checking ping times to boards.ie fairly regularly last night (Saturday).
Average ping time was always under 40 ms.

    Guess there wasn't much congestion.
