    Howdy all,

As a Christmas gift to myself I have decided to purchase an SMG for CQB and indoor games. As I am new enough to the sport I was wondering could you fine folks help me in choosing between an Mp5, Im looking at a non silenced, with retractable stock, your views on the various brands and another other SMG be it be a UMP or P90 Im looking at a budget of around €280 for the SMG( not including battery),

You could get a top end G&G UMP.

I've no idea what the clone MP5s are like, only that G&G currently make the best MP5s and they cost a bit more than 280 I think.

The P90 is a nice SMG, very easy to upgrade and work on. You could get the ACM one and have enough cash left for extra mags, battery or a nice sight for it.

    P90
    Pro's
Smallest overall profile presented to the enemy
    High ROF
    Excellent accuracy.
    Cons
Mags are expensive and there arent many about
Reloads are slightly more awkward than the other models
You get slagged because it looks like a keyring

    MP5
    Pro's
Mags are really easy to source and cheap enough to mid caps
    Nearly everyone has one
Web kit is pretty easy to get
    Cons
No rails on a standard model
Many manufacturers have a short life span in the trigger group

    UMP
    Pro's
    Rails as standard
    Folding stock as standard
    Cons
Mags are chunky and a bit of a pain

Over all the P90 wins out imho due to the overall profile you'll have and the increased accuracy. However, if quick mag changes are your game you'll spend longer changing a P90 than an MP5 - and you can certainly carry more MP5 mags than P90 or UMP mags.

thank you i was leaning towards an mp5 myself, but Im willing to listen to the voices of experience. Are the ACM ones good, I not a fan of clones most Ive used feel cheap.

Ever since vtec got an ACM P90 and cracked it open to see what makes it tick it suddenly became cool overnight.:D

If anyone gives you any stick, get two P90s.

lol., some good points there lads.,
And "NO", the P90 never became cool, its still a fugly piece of kit and as hive said, looks like a key ring, thats the best discription ive heard of it yet., :D

that said, its a mighty fine gun and can perform up there with the best of them, theres nothing between the TM and the ACM except about 100 notes so i know what i would chose. ACM mags are now availible too in 68rds and 300rds so no more hassle with expencive TM mags.

If its an MP5 your after, as someone said above in the thread, you wont beat the G&G version, its the only MP5 ive seen to date to have a realistic cocking bolt and a full metal upper reciever and front end. the quality in them is fantastic and it comes with side and under front rails too if you want to stick them on.,

As far as a UMP is concerned, the G&G is defo the way to go, if your in any way used to quality AEGs you'll only be left wanting if you bought the DE instead. its good, but the G&G is a different class and you cant fit the silencer on the DE version., Its also the same size as a G36'c except the G36 has mare after market parts availible, looks better, and mags are far easier to get.

I love my UMP, but if you get an MP5 go with a JG.

Regarding UMP mags, the DE has nice 540rnd Hi-caps but no mids or lows fit them. The GandG has mids and lows available.

Buttt......the P90, well, it just destroys everything.

    VTEC IS WRONG!!!!! :p

    The P90 is cool.

Jack O'Neil has one so therefore it MUST be cool. You may not argue. This is the intarnet. I has teh logik!

To throw a spanner in the works, where are you planning on using this piece you want?

I noticed you said you wanted a SMG for CQB. I know the obvious choice is small guns, but tbh after my experience in the warehouse for example, next time i go, my g36c is coming with me.

Most of the obvious points have been covered above by the experienced guys, but to throw more options

G&G plastica. identical to an m4a1 armalite, plastic body, G&G internals, stock fully retracted is a nice small comfy rifle with great performance.

Dboys CQB series. Yes its a clone, but a full metal body, and as VTEC will agree( being the pro) there gearboxes are seriously reliable. A seriously comfy gun with nice compactness.

G&G UMP - A gorgous piece, i love it personally. Its plastic as the real is ( afaik likes of puding/dex can correct that point) options galore with its rails and the silencer actually makes a difference.

JG Stubby killer - Opon to correction but is it not the smaller rifle out there? its the ultimate cqb weapon, reliability, full metal, stanag mags, small and comfy ( just dont dare get a box/c mag for it :P )

P90 has already being mentioned, as a bit ****ty as it looks ( im sorry i think stargate is the gayest thing ever...it shoulda died with kirt russell) but its performance cannot be faulted.

mp5k - I use this myself, it has a bit of a slow rof, but it consistently chronos 300 and it is the only gun I havent broke...and if you know me, you realise that this mp5k is the equivalant of adamantium :) And for the price, you can go buy two if you want, spare mags the works :)

And he has a space ship named after him. Besides, if it's good enough for MacGyver...

The P90, despite being smaller, is probably the most accurate of the lot. The Echo1/ACM P90 is just as good, if not better, than the TM P90. Everything between the two of them is cross compatible, including mags. The ACM mags are also pretty damn cheap.

The G&G UMP is absolutely gorgeous, and only for my getting a P90, I'd have gotten it. It's comfortable, compact and hideously easy to change mags in. They're also less common than most aegs.

The MP5 is a classic, but not the best suited if you like your add ons. It's comfortable and has plentiful spares, mags are cheap and easy to find and MP5 pouches are easily come by now too. If you don't mind not having a folding/retractable stock, the full stock allows for large batteries, giving you the option of super high capacity packs (I've a 9.6v 4300mAh that gives days of use on one charge). The other big advantage of the MP5 is the variations. There's (at least) seven different types available, all using the same mag etc, with varying styles to suit any player in any role.

The big drawback for the UMP and P90 though, are size of mags. It can make getting pouches to fit your mags a nightmare unless you get custom vests made. Luckily though, OpsGear now do a P90/UMP mag pouch for MOLLE vests which is cheap, great quality and perfectly suited to both.

You can use the mags from teh G&G in the DE, so highs, mids and lows availible.

Yep as MP5's go I found the Galaxy model 'PDW' to be quite good as a backup weapon ,I bought it from Shiva (eirsoft) €110, approx 10 months ago and have used it often during skermishes without any problems. It has a good rate of fire reasonable mag capacity. The only slight downside you are limited on battery size.I know you can buy better quality at a price but hey why have the same weapon forever......we all like to upgrade so not spending too much means you can move on and not feel too guilty.

Stargate is not that gay. It's certainly one of the least gay of all the sci fi shows...

The only legit problem that I have seen mentioned here in regards to the p90 is the loading time, and mag space.
Mag space would be grand for anyone who uses molle or dump pouches and the loading time, well obviously you'd get better at it the more you do it..
The way I see it, if you get a p90 with one or two high caps, you'd be pretty unstopable.

I am going to use whatever smg I get for skirmishing as a backup outdoors to my m4 and as a primary indoors. I was looking at it for the warehouse primarily. And to have the option of a second aeg

Outdoor back up P90 wins hands down.

I have it down to between the G&G Ump and the P90, I know where I can get the Ump but any one know where can I get an ACM P90 as i dont fell like splashing my well earned cash on the TM if the ACM one is just as good. TM already got enough of my money.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

Id go with the P90 if your goal is to get a gun for indoor and as a secondary, the UMP isnt really as small as its sometimes made out.,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 797 ✭✭✭Spetzcong

In terms of CQB there's also the AKSU varients particularly the Kalashi ones, or an AK Beta Spetsnaz. Neither of them will be as small as a P90 but they'd be about on par with an UMP, also the L85 cannot be forgotten either, due to its bullpup design I've found that in a CQB environment it functions just as well as a MP5, it's not quite as small a bullpup as the P90 but it would have the advantage of you being able to use STANAG mags, plus it works very well as a main rifle for outdoor games. Much like the P90 the bullpup design means that you don't really sacrifce barrel length so you get good range and accuracy. One last option to throw at ya, have you considered an MP7? Probably the smallest of all of them.

Really, thought Dex said before that they needed modding. Maybe the well was changed when they updated it.

And yeah, you wont carry a UMP as a secondary, its not that small:p

Just to give another option that Spetzcong reminded me of. The L85 and Styer AUG are similar in length and operation and are nice and compact, though neither could be considered a back up. However, British air crews also have a specialised modified version of the L85 available to them called the AFW. It's basically an SMG version of the L85. I've been toying with the idea of getting one lately as Star make them as well as their carbine version and the standard L85.

Lethal, the G&G ones are fine in the DE UMP. As far as I know though, the Star brand UMP uses mags with a different shape of feeder nozzle so they won't work.

P90, I love mine and its the only thing i use in skirmishing, all my other aegs just sit at home
