    Found this article today, http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/13/world/europe/13vatican.html.

In it it has the following,
The Vatican issued the most authoritative and sweeping document on bioethical issues in more than 20 years on Friday, taking into account recent developments in biomedical technology and reinforcing the church’s opposition to in vitro fertilization, human cloning, genetic testing on embryos before implantation and embryonic stem cell research.

I was always under the impression, which was wrong, that the Vatican supported in vitro.

I was just wondering is this a common standpoint across the various forms of Christianity?

If you can read this, you're too close!

I've never heard of any opposition within Christianity to IVF. I certainly can't think of any good reason for such opposition.

Thats why I was so surprised by the article, as I was raised Catholic (not Catholic anymore) and generally knew what the church opposed. I thought the church would have supported IVF as it facilitated the creation of life.

I think they are OK with In Vivo, not In Vitro (test tube).

If I recall correctly they are not as it is not the natural way , and some embryo’s are stored or destroyed

Afaik the church feels ivf is unnatural conception and are therefore opposed to it. I guess if its along the lines of science blessing a union as opposed to God then its not something they will support. I think if it affects you, you're better talking to a priest who should know the score and would be able to guide you in your situation better.
