My memory card was wiped during a re-format of my camera , by a "friend".
Is every thing gone or is there any way to retrieve the images ?

    Any help would be welcome.

Several recovery programs out there, ensure the card is NOT used in the mean time, not even in the camera when it's switched on.

Google Image Recovery for as much software as you can get your hands on :)

Generally when you reformat sometin it will wipe EVERYTHING, well that what happens if you do it on a pc, dunno bout a camera though...... Hope you didnt have to find out the hard way :-)

I have reformatted cards and tried out recovery software and it brought back a lot of pictures even ones from a shoot before the one I had formatted

Just get some recovery software and you should be able to get most of your pictures back depending on the make model of you camera.

You will get some (& older ones too as mentioned above) but you may not get them all

Can also depend what sort of format has been done. The G9 gives an option of Low or High level formats.

    Good luck.

this free software has worked for me in the past a few times, but like said above depends on the type of format

First of all, don't use the card again and as long as the card is not written to at all since the forrmatting then it can be recovered. If you want to pm me with your details I can do it for you, I have an application which I regularly use to recover stuff when my students f**k up. It was supplied with a Sandisk card and I have always found it to work well.PM me with your details and I can do it for you or I can put the application on a disc and post it to you. It has always worked for me and generally has been successful every time. The only problem is that while it appears to recover everything, you will never know for sure what you have lost because it is not there to verify. Be wary of commercial companies who say they can do it for you, while they will do it for you, the can then hold you to ransom when they have your data. Get a quote first in writing so that you know where you stand.
PM me and we'll take it from there.

    David

Our customers swear by this programme ( http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/photorescue-download.htm )- easy to use and toallly effective! As already mentioned, formatting only tells the camera that the card is empty and can be written to, Images will remain on the card until they are over-written. You can try this programme FREE and see the images that are possible to recover. However you must purchase the programme for a modest fee before it will alow you to save them.

    Totally free
doesn't write to the media so unlike lots of other utils won't make things work

Just to say a big Thank you to all those who took the time to post possible solutions to my problem.
Sorry to say nothing worked as the Memory Card had been writen to several times, "in an effort to try something out" , and all that was being recovered were the new images.

Thanks anyway guys and keep up the good work.

    Jay
