    hi,

I am looking to get a Hardtop for my MGB Roadster, and so far I have only been able to find suitable ones in England. Any one here got a hardtop or know anyone???

What I was wondering is, does anyone here know any couriers or people they use to get large items over from England. All the couriers I rang so far either cant deal with that size item or want ridiculious money.

    Thanks for you help!

fair dues, just think because of the size and possible weight it'll costa bomb otherwise, maybe someone here has one :)

    Don't know anyone off-hand.

I have had a few larger items sent to me via DHL, but costs do get prohibitive when the volume creeps up (volumetric weight) or size goes beyond a set limit in certain dimensions.

Just have to take time out, or be lucky in getting someone passing by to collect.

What part of England can it be collected from?

Try Alan Kessie at Ask Racing, he brings a lot of cars and parts in from the UK. Contact details are on his website www.askracing.com

If its flat glass, just make up a template in cardboard and bring it to your local glass place, should be tempered in the sides ,I think.

Shouldn't be a bother getting flat toughened glass to fit the sides. I don't know who does it here though. Call a few windscreen places I suppose.

Thanks lad much look into getting class cut, but the difficulty will be (i'd imagine) is getting the window frames made up. As the whole assembly is missing.

I take a few photos of the restoration and post them as I go along.

Edit: Possible solution to window conundrum; get perspex cut to shape simply glue and screw it to fit using makeshift brackets.

Well, after buying a hardtop that was lacking side windows, iv been thinking of what to do with it.

    BmjJFwWkKGrHqEH-CEEt67E4dFBLgv4vhCg.jpg

Step 1: Dismantle. I removed all the brackets, catches and clips. Sand blasted these and primed, silver painted and plenty of lacquer.

Step 2: Cleaned the headlining and bleached it to get it back white. Reaffixed the ironmongery. ready for a test fitting to the car to allow for bracket adjustments.

Without the side windows, it looks bit funny, but with the front windows down looks like a pillar-less coupe. Plan is to get some perspex cut to fill the voids and make up a rough aluminium frame. Also need to big seals for the door window aperture. See photo

NEXT Step: Repaint in MG Glacier White tomorrow

Oh, right, I see now, you need all the ally framework, glass, rubbers and locking strips.

Got you work cut out there.

I think you can gather the pieces up as you go, depends on the budget. Some of the stuff for that factory hardtop looks available in the US and Canada.

Collected the top today after it received a top-notch paint job in original MG colour 'Glacier White', by CarCraft in North Strand. Nice bluey-white, rather than cream. Looks well in the light. Fairly chuffed with the paint job.

Bodged a new seal into the rear below the window and refitted to the car. Still no side windows or brackets, but I'm working on that.
