    hi guys
I help out with our local Community Games. My kids have recently taken up chess and Im thinking of getting our area involved in in chess. Ive browsed the Community Games website to see if its too late to start thinking about doing it for the 2008/2009 season, but there are no dates on the website.
Now I know its a long shot, but there just might be somebody out there who might know the answer to this question - when is the close off date to receive applications for Community Games chess?

I was going to say "ask the person in your area who organises the community games teams" but it looks like that might be you.

I have no idea when the date could be but I think there are several levels of competition -- county, regional and national or something along those lines. Depending on what county you are in there might only be one or two teams interested in competing, or you might be the only ones, or there might be a busy competition already started. So you really need to contact someone in your own county to find out the details.

Limerick has been a hotbed of junior chess in recent years so there's a good chance there are several established teams, but I suppose they might have stuck to other competitions.

Where abouts in Limerick are you situated?
Tbh, I don't know much about the community games. I don't know of many juniors involved in it though. If anyone has teams playing, I'd say Shannon or Adare may have teams. None of the towns/parishes/communities near me have teams anymore (Newport, Ahane, Castleconnell Monaleen etc.). I'd imagine that the closing date would be similar to other sports?

FWIW, school chess (esp in Limk) is definitely a way to go if you want your kids to play, much more of an active scene than Community games I think.
