I dont know if any of you suffer from this.
When out on the bike my nose runs like a tap, even in milder weather.
I know I have a long standing broken nose issue plus diagnosed with polyops.Any one ever suffer/overcome this?

I get quite a runny nose, mostly in cold weather.

Simplest solution: Press down on one nostril and blow through the other. Repeat for the other one :)

It's not pretty but it has to be done.

Either that or grow a full, lustrous moustache to absorb the stream of mucous.

It won't be lustrous for long

Let me give you an idea of how bad it is.Usaully after a 90 min plus spin my gloves/armwarmers are manky from mucus from having to wipe my nose every few mins.

Theres a technique that you need to perfect - grasp both nostrils between thumb and forefinger, squeeze moderately and make a single flowing movement with your arm, outward and downward, with a little flick at the outermost sweep of the arc. Once mastered, this will remove snot from both nostrils at the same time with a minimum of leakage and blowback on to you, you bike and your gloves.

When you get really good, you can clear both nostrils at the same time. it can make you a bit lightheaded though :-)

I am the exact same ... not only while cycling ... but also when I go out running .... and also during summer

I am not as good as hunnymonster to be able to clean both nostrils at the same time ..., but I usually manage to twist my head, press down on one side and blow out the other quite effectively

Just make sure I'm not right behind you. ;)

Yep happens to me too, again mostly in cold weather.

Clearly nobody else here has mastered the art of clearing your nose without using your hands. I can't remember when/how I figured out how to do it, but I only seem to be able to do it over my left shoulder and not my right.

... As a 'lady' ... I always thought I couldn't try and attempt that ... I will give it a shot next time I am out ( on the bike ) ... thanks hunnymonster!

Today was my 4th spin on a road bike and I had the tap effect too (must be the cold weather). Anyway as my right glove began to look like the cat splurged on it I just turned my head left and blew sharply out both nostrils. Definitely not pretty but it works... repeat every 10k or so! Its not like you OH wants to hop on you when you arrive back from a spin anyway ;)

Every spin I learn something new!

Happens to me also. Mostly in cold weather, but it does happen all year around.
I have polyps also, and have seen a surgeon in the past about them. Yur constant sniffling is more than likely due to the polyps and exacerbated by scar tissue from nose break.
You could get an op to have them removed, but it is not that effective an operation (thats what I have been told by surgeon).
Also, you can try a spray (Flixonase) - can help.
But if you have polyps, then once you start exercising you are going to have a runny nose. Not a lot that you can do about it really.

Another important point is to remember is that it is not advisable to use outdoor etiquette when on the turbo or treadmill in the gym. Gym staff tend not to like having to clean up the contents of your nose/throat/brain off the floor!

I was in a race once and yelled "snot coming left" because I knew there was someone on my back wheel. He said "thank you" bless!
