You favourite sounding films

I am doing lots of film/tv mixes lately and have really started paying attention to sound in films. What film mixes have really sucked you in and why?. I am not talking about music/soundtrack so please disregard the soundtrack.

My favourites off the top of my head would be:

Apocalypse Now. The helicopter morphing into the ceiling fan at the beginning is beyond genius, as is the whole film which was 80% ADR dialogue replaced.

No Country For Old Men. Not one bit of music in the whole film. The sound in this film is menacing and desolate and really drew me in.

Wall-E. Just watched this recently and it is amazing. Every bit of sound in the film is "made" from scratch. The sound in the opening segment really brought across the sense of loneliness.

Blade Runner. The future is dark and scary, not clean and computerised like Kubrick's 2001.

There are many others but can't think of them right now.

I was in the cinema nearly cheering after every little sound in that film. bloody beautiful sounding.

the apple startup sound when he rebooted was a nice touch too (and a nice nod to the fact that Steve Jobs owns pixar).

Just off the top of my head '' the good the bad and the ugly '' had some memorable sounding highlights throughout .The scene at the end in the graveyard were the 3 guys are eyeballing each other is amazing .It's has a slow close up the eyes of all 3 which quickly speeds up, while the background music has hollow bells and high cresendou trumpets also building up until the camera zooms in even quicker on the 3 ,until the shootout .

Sure there are many others , just cant think of them right now.

donnie darko. ever watch it in 5.1? the first time frank says "wake up" it comes out of the rear speakers. it scared the **** out of me.

the blue man groups complex rock tour dvd is also brilliant, but thats a concert so i dont think it counts in this instance.

My fav would have to be Escape from L.A. :D

Its got to be The Godfather. That scene where Michael shoots the cop and the gangster is class with all the train noises creating the buildup.

Favourite has to be the David Lynch film "Eraserhead".

Its v.creepy & claustrophobic.. The music / noises are a perfect backdrop to the fkd up story. Crazy film.

    SO atmospheric.

Its a extremely wierd and difficult one to watch.. I've not watched it in a good few years now.. but its definitely stayed with me :pac: :pac:

Its a good one to put on if you want people to leave your house! :D
