"Real Crime: James Bulger - A Mother's Story"

    http://www.itv.com/news/realcrimejamesbulger/default.html
Mark Austin narrates the story of Denise Fergus's efforts to create a fitting memorial for her son, who was only two years old when he was abducted from a Merseyside shopping centre and murdered in February 1993. In the year of what would have been James's 18th birthday, Denise reveals why she is working toward something positive in his memory

What do ye think of this ?
She's talking a lot about trying to get on with her life and come to terms with the death of Jamie and that. There's something about this that doesn't sit right with me.

Is there a reason for this being in AH?

    www.crimelibrary.com

There is an excellent article about the events that happened on the case. Well, not realy an article, it's about 10 pages long and i suppose it's good if you want to learn the facts of the case

Actually, that site is a very good read if you've an hour or two to spare. You'd find something to interest you

Not trying to flame you OP :)
Just gotta say that's it well reported that Mrs Bulger NEVER called her son "Jamie". Just like the McCanns never used Maddie

Jamie was just used by tabloid headlines and got picked up. It's just the tabloids trying to shorten everything and make it snappy

Just finished watching it ( why did i think a thread would be started about it ? ) .Denise looks very well after all this time and it's good to see that she is hoping to open a school in Liverpool for bullied children in the region ,similar to the one shown in the documentry tonight .

I dunno, I don't see why she feels the need to make this memorial so public and have a tv programme about it.

Because the whole world and it's dog felt so strongly about that terrible event and they still do .She still gets letters from ordinary people all over the world and their were other people involved in making the programme such as Ester Ranson .It was a human interest story like any other human interest story .

Maybe she wants to feel that her son is not forgotten and/or lessons can be learned from his poor passing.

Leave the woman alone for crying out loud.

    RIP James.

I think Karen Mathews has done even more damage that intially thought if people are casting aspersions on Jamie Bulger's mother.

Well, its her tragedy, so its her business, really. I didn't see the programme, but I read a book about the case and it was harrowing. I wouldn't attempt to put myself in her shoes, but my guess is that perhaps making the the tv programme and having a public memorial is cathartic for her.

Why shouldn't she? would you not do that for your son if it happened to your son? I think she's a remarkably strong woman, to be focused on something so positive, especially when you consider what she lives with every day, not just the loss of her son, but the manner in which he died, the physical pain and the fear he must have felt, and then the almighty insult of his two murderers not just getting out of prison, but thier lives and privacy being protected. I would imagine that she doesn't want people to forget about him, and I cant blame her, in fact I say fair play to her

i think hes saying that we're all now sceptical about any child disappearance case since the matthews, and even when one is as sickeningly genuine as the bulger case, we dont immediately react with a s much sympathy as we should.

Intrestingly, when the McCann case hit the news I never thought Maddies parents were guilty and I still dont .However Karen Matthews showed signs in her body langauge of a habitual liar and i'm sure I wasnt the only one to notice she was of very low inteligence and it showed . I was living in Liverpool for only a year when James bulger went missing and my son was also only two years old at the time so i remember those events so well ..

I will never forget wanting to climb into the television and punch Gay in the head when James Bolgers parents were on the lls. He kept talking to them about 'forgiveness' in a super patronizing way and from what I remember basically telling them that they should forgive the two pieces of scum that did it.

Its up to the people with the grief to decide how they deal with the grief. Then and now.

Those 2 scumbags even at 10 knew what they were doing and to think that they are out living their lives now, they might even be over here, I'd really love to get my hands on them, lets just say justice would be served on them!

The way they conducted themselves in the courtroom sent shivers down my spine.
No remorse whatsoever was shown , and in return the justice system all but rewards them.
l know they were locked up , but they were allowed TV and PlayStation games with Console and to continue with their schooling.
They are men now, and free to live among people who know nothing about who they really are.
As far as I know they are not allowed to tell anyone , even girlfriend or wife where they originate from or what they did.

Weren't they given lessons on how to get rid of their accents as well?
It seems everything possible has been done to help these two live a normal life upon their release.

Poor James had no such help. Not even from the people
who saw him being pulled along the street , which in hindsight must haunt them to this day.

Poor little kid , he hadn't a chance.

Too obvious - you think nobody else thought of that sh*t pun? Well they did, but they weren't lame enough to bother. You fail!
