    Hi

I just wondered what the situation with tax and prsi etc are after you get married. Both myself and my husband work full time and are married but havent told the revenue that we are married yet - will we be better off or is it still the same but all the tax is deducted from one persons salary???

    thanks in advance

tell them tell them tell them.
married people with both spouses earning have more tax credits than two single people, it can be back dated as well for a few years.

you can both still have tax credits, or one of you can take all of them but mostly people split them based on if one of ye isnt using all of them, than the balance can be transfered over to the higher earner.

do it tomorrow, and also ask them about what other tax credits you may be entitled to, work uniform tax credit, bin tax credit, rent tax credit, union tax credit, also have you sent off medical receipts,
My friend got back over 4000, as she and husband had never shared tax credits and they were married for 9 years all the while she worked part time and minded the kids so never used up all her credits, while he was paying 41%, crazy. I think they backdated it for 5years, but it may have been 7. bit of an extreme example i know, but you may get a couple of hundred back dated, and pay less tax in 2009.

Married people dont get more tax credits they can just transfer any unused credits and rateband between each other.
You can only get a review done for the previous 4 years.
There is no work uniform allowance but there is a Flat rate expense credit which it is often confused with. It depends on your occupation whether you are entitled to this credit or not. A list of the qualifying occupations can be found on the Revenue website. :)

    +1
Revenue told me this last month also, when I queried as to why my ex husband was using my tax credits without my permission!
