    Shame he can't stay there.
the chairman of the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) John Doherty will also chair the European Regulators Group (ERG) of 27 nations in 2010.

    April 1st is yonks away.
“It is a great honour and reflects the high regard that ComReg is held in by its peers, both at a European and international level,” Doherty commented on his appointment.

Doherty chaired ComReg through the best times (for eircom), under his leadership we stayed at the bottom of league tables, line rental went up, line failures went up, satellite dishes went up (on school chimeys) and the telco environment came closer than ever to going belly up. This great experience will now be used to persuade other regulators to try the same tactics I bet.

Fairly apt he should be "elevated" on that particular day.

Is this the same European "super regulator" that we hoped would sort out Ireland's BB problems? :o

He is actually to be the head of the most 'powerful lobby' against the super regulator .

The European Regulators have collectively recognised the unique talents of the greatest experts in all of Europe in the fine art of doing absolutely nothing and getting paid handsomely for it . The fact that Comreg continues to exist at all is a source of great amazement and wonder .

They want some of that unique karma to wash over themselves what with the Commission making noises about doing something useful for the Citizenry and Businesses of Europe by creating a super regulator to take over certain targeted functions of failed regulators :(

Comreg have an agenda to ensure that every EU country has the same ridiculous line rental charges that are allowed here and that rubbish like Ripwave is recognised universally as the absolute bees knees of Broadband.

Bring them all down to our level, smarmy european gits with their FTT(whaetver) and Docsis 3 and VDSL2 . Can't have that can we:(

Well in that case he's the man for the job! Just a shame such a job exists.
