Thieving Italian Government?

Has anyone else received a mail from easyjet, or any other airline, requesting an extra €2 departure tax for leaving Italy? I left at the end of October and snce then a more expensive tax has been implemented and it is being backdated. Not too sure if it is a scam or not and I'm not paying it either way, just wondering if any other members have heard of this yet?

It was implemented on 27th Oct, so if you flew after this date, you're liable. The backdating isn't based on if you travelled before 27th of October, merely it applies even if you booked prior to the date.

What date was your departure from Italy?

It may well be that you could ignore it, but I'd say if you do you may have trouble using easyjet again.

thanks for the quick reply Mike, looks like I'm going to have to pay. Its very bad form on easyjet for not notifying me earlier as I booked in mid October and flew after the increase had been omplemented. Another reason to avoid expensive rip off Italy!!:D

To be fair, they might not have known that the charge would have been assessed on bookings made prior to the implementation. It's a bit backward alright, looking for money for prior bookings, but that's how they work.

At least it's not a tenner...
