DHL Deliveries never come to my house??

I don't know if this is common and it isn't really a big deal but it annoys me sometimes to be honest. I get a lot of stuff delivered from online orders purchases etc and sometimes have to use couriers depending on the size of the items.

However DHL very rarely actually deliver to my address. Instead I get a phone call asking me can I meet them somewhere or if there is somewhere they can drop it? Mmmmm.....maybe the address I specified for delivery?

Now most of the time this isn't a problem but it just annoys me sometimes that the don't just deliver it to the address I specified. Fair enough ring me to make sure there's someone there but then just get it there. As I say not a big deal but sometimes it annoys me

Do you live a few miles outside of town?? If you do chances are they're just not bothered to go out of their way to make the delivery. I have seen this before when couriers would ask for directions to places & when they find out it's a few miles away & not in a straight line on route it'll be blanked or the phone call to arrange a drop off spot. Whatever about this time of year for deliveries, i know business outside of the major cities has declined noticeably & a few of the major carriers i have talked to were laying off & cutting routes. It's still not an excuse for failing to make a doorstep delivery which is the premise of the service.

The way i see it you paid for door to door service and should get it. It's probably just the driver on that route being a bit lazy. You should insist on the delivery to your door and if you don't get it ring the DHL office and complain - also let the website you bought off know because they'd be very annoyed at them, after all your only as good as you weakest link.

Only exception to this is if the driver tried calling you in the morning when he /she was out in the vicinity of your house and you couldn't answer your phone. In that case they could give you a call to ask if you want to meet them or if you'll be available the next day at the time they will be doing your area.

    Hi,

I have the exact same problem with DHL. According to DHL, they contract jobs in my area (Laois) out to other couriers. Twice I had serious issues with them as they didn’t even call me to ask to meet me somewhere, they just held onto my packages on both occasions for 3 and 4 days in their van until I created enough noise for them to call me.

As it happens they were orders placed with different suppliers, however both
Companies had a section on their shipping page to enter additional info, so I put clear instructions on it as to how to reach my home and also entered my mobile number here again. I live on the outskirts of a town on the N7; I live across from the Medical Centre so it’s not that hard to find me!

Both times I asked the drivers why they hadn’t delivered; the first one said he had tried to find our address for 3 days unsuccessfully, when I asked why he hadn’t called he just shrugged his shoulders. After a couple of phone calls with DHL I got a refund for the delivery. The second time I again asked the driver why he hadn’t delivered it despite having the package 3 days in his van, he said that I lived too far away from his usual route in Mountrath (12 KMs from my house), I asked why he hadn’t called me and he said he didn’t have my number, I showed him my number directly under my address on the package and he said he was a delivery driver not a “telesales bird”!!!

I would do as Fancy Dresser suggested, complain to the supplier, DHL and if the delivery driver is working for another company contracted by DHL complain to them also. My guess is that if you make enough noise (which you really shouldn’t have to do) from then on your deliveries will arrive at your door without hassle.

    Best of luck,

    Derrin

The last mile is all important. If you are happy to meet the driver then that is fine.

BUT if not don't do it. They don't get paid without your signature.

The parcel networks ( they are not couriers - they carry the freight direct a to b not input it into a massive system ) are not that fond of home delivery. B2B means consolidation of freight. Which makes it worth while.

Home delivery means phone calls, redeliveries and all sorts of hassle.

If you had a work address that would make a difference:cool:
