It's not just the Auris that's getting greener for next year...

now the Yaris is as well.

For 2009(in Europe at least, God only knows when Toyota Ireland will start bringing them in, perhaps 2010 if we're lucky or possibly 2011 maybe?) the Yaris will be cleaning up its act a whole lot.

The current model is being facelifted and is gaining a new engine as well. In typical Toyota form the facelifted one is only slightly different from the current one appearance wise.

The basic 1.0 petrol is unchanged though it is now in VRT band A rather than B. It will do something in the region of 57 or 58 mpg.

The diesel has gained a few mpg for 2009(now up to 67.2) and now only pollutes 110 g/km and has a 6 speed 'box instead of a 5 speed one. It has gained a bit more torque as well, not sure by how much though.

But the best bit is that the present 1.3 model is going to be replaced by the new 1.33 petrol that is coming to the Auris presumably whenever Toyota Ireland find enough fools to buy the 1.4 Auris and shift some of those diesels as well.

It is also in band A for VRT as well rather than band C like the outgoing 1.3, so will obviously be the intelligent choice here, though I suspect that the pint sized 1.0 will remain the favourite in Ireland.

It will boast 101 bhp, 55.4 mpg, and auto start stop too. Like the diesel it will have a 6 speed box as well.
