    Hi All,

Am going to Meribel in Jan - staying in some chalet which does not inc Equipment rental or Lift pass - its located in Meribel Village - any advice on the best (Cheapest) place to rent equipment in Meribel (online,in the village) and also I want to get the 3 Valleys pass - advice on the best place to get this would also be good.

Finally - I note that you can get Bronze, silver, gold gear - is der really a diffrence? This is my 3rd time skiing the last two times I got Bronze- what should I get this time?

    Thanks

Often the cheapest place is in the valley town rather than the resort, but then you are stuck if you need to change.

If you've only skied three weeks, then bronze is fine. Silver and gold are more specialised and usually newer, but hardly worth the extra money unless you are doing some extreme skiing.

Never skied Meribel, but I've never known a resort that makes it hard to buy a lift pass. Ask in your accommodation if they have any way of getting you a reduction, a lot of hotels etc can give you a guest card that's worth a 10% discount. Also, ask in the tourist office if you can get any sort of discount. Sometimes a married couple, or parent and child, or a group buying together can get a discount.

Having been to Meribel - and stayed in Brides les Bains, I would advise against it as a base, gets very cold on the way down the gondola, a journey of 30mins plus. Didnt help that I had the flu, but I still prefer to be closer to the slopes.

As another point - I rented from Intersport & it was cheaper, but 15-20 walk with gear from where I was staying on the day we got it & the day we returned it, so wasn't worth what I saved - considering there was a ski-hire place underneath the gondola station :-(

The lift pass should be easy to get as said above - contact your accommodation provider for details.
