Buy a synth or use softsynths to create your own?

Alternatively you could get some midi tracks and use an editor to extract everything that isn't keys or synths. But generally midi sounds dated and crap...

+1...midi sounds whatever way you want it to sound! If that's dated then your taste in music is dated:p

MIDI is just code, the sounds depend on what you point it at.

Arguably the code is a little dated, but I think Dord was referring to onboard soundcard MIDI synths anyway. I wouldn't say they sound dated so much as having always sounded like crap. :pac:

But speaking of dated, I have a C64 SID chip on a PCI interface that I really need to use more. :D The album will start with a voiceover swimming in digital reverb declaring "It is the year 1987..." and then something about cyborgs, possibly from the future.

Yes, I meant onboard MIDI sounds which are usually used in those crappy MIDI backing tracks I was speaking of...
