Wilier Stockists

    Hey,

I looking for some info off you fine people as from reading a lot of posts you guys seem to know what your talking about.
I currently have a Giant OCR 4 which has served me quite well for my weekly 40 km spin and the couple of charity cycles a year I do but with the budget incentive and my company so kindly offering an interest free loan for up to the €1,000 over the year I feel I would be a fool not to take the offer up. So with this in mind I'm on the look out for a new road bike and as I like my toys I'm for something in the €1,500 to €2,000. For some reason I'm not keen on the mass produced bikes i.e. Terk Giant etc and like the idea of the smaller companies.
So after having a look i like the Ridley Orion and have heard good reports but is the frame a bit heavy (even though it is carbon!) as would like this to be a bike i could have for a number of years and upgrade the components as necessary so I'm more concerned on getting a good frame and have read a few good reviews on Wilier but does anybody know a shop that stocks a couple of them?? And does anybody views on good bikes in that range or have any views on the Wilier or Ridley??

    Thanks in advance!!

Cycling pursuits on the Dock Road in Limerick stock Wilier bikes - haven't ridden one myself but a friend has a Le Roi and it's a smashing looking machine.

If looking for max bang for your buck look at the Focus range of bikes available from Wiggle.co.uk, just be sure of your frame size prior to ordering

However, if you're looking to maximise your money locally maybe consider looking into Cycleogical on the quays in Dublin, I believe they've a sale on and stock Ridleys.

All that said, I've a Giant TCR C and I've absolutely no regrets about it. You may be able to go for a Defy Advanced 3 or TCR advanced 3 (going on cyclesuperstore prices) that would be in your price range. The defy would be more suitable for leisure/tour cycles but the TCR would take future upgrades very well.

The new Cycle Surgery Store in Dundrum stocks Wilier

Cycleogical on the quays wouldn't be a bad place to start -they can have a reputation of being a bit caustic, but are ok if you're dropping serious coin on a new bike. They also stock Ridley (the Orion is in your price point, and a very nice bike -DirkVoodoo on here rides one).

Not heard anything about the Wiliers being very heavy though, El_Tono swears by his!

I've a Wilier Mortirolo, which I'm very happy with. Frame is pretty light, with a good stiff bottom bracket area, but it's also quite a comfortable ride and definitely nicer than my other, aluminium bike. I'd definitely consider buying Wilier again when getting my next frame.

The Cycle Surgery in Dundrum is the only place in Dublin I know that sells them. There are several people on here with Ridleys and I'm sure they'll provide some feedback. Cyclelogical are the place to go for Ridleys.

el tonto i've seen a photo on here off your bike and it looks great, better than the Ridley i think (no disrespect to Ridley owners) and if the two bikes are equal then think i would be going with the Wilier. Had a look in Cyclelogical and see where their rep comes from but on the face of it the Ridley Orion does seem like a great deal! I'll take a trip out to the Cycle Surgery and see what they have out there. Although i'll be hoping they will have a January sale! Might price them in Cycling Pursuits as well so thanks for that CheGuedara.
Would people say they are pretty even so in terms of comfort or performance??

    Thanks again!

I've never ridden the Ridley, so I've no idea how it stacks up. Ideally speaking you should try out both, but it can be a pretty tricky thing to do.

A lot of places will have cheaper models now. People tend to try and get rid of the 08 stuff before year end as 09 stuff is already coming in.

FYI, Wiggle are selling one with Tiagra

Never seen Wilier on Wiggle before. I wonder are they going to start selling the full range or is it a one off?

Yeah I've seen a few Wiliers in cycle-surgery, didn't look as nice as El Tonto's though.

I have an Orion, as does Cadex, and both of us find it a very good bike. For that money you could also consider a Planet X, cracking bike!

If you don't live miles away from me (im in Dublin 18) you are more than wlecome to have a look at the Ridley some day.

DirkVoodoo thanks for the offer but one of my mates has one so will prob take that for a spin! He loves the bike but like me has tried many others so couldn't give too much advice! :)

Might have a look at the Planet X though! See what sort of spec it is.

AFAIK, the ridley orion in cycleogical has a 105/ultegra mix groupset.
For same cash (or a little less) you could go for Dolan Hercules with full ultegra groupset.
Alternatively, you could go Euro on the Wilier with the campag sets. Saw them out in Dundrum. They look very nice indeed.
(Actually - other than the Wilier, there was very little else of interest in Cyclesurgery IMO).

My Ridley has Ultegra Front/Rear Mech, shifters, brakes. R700 Compact chainset. Not sure about the chain or cassette (probably 105). The one thing that had me puzzled was the Bikeradar review said the finishing kit included a carbon seatpost and stem, but the one from cycleogical has an Aluminium "Oval" seatpost and stem. Small details for sure, but worth noting.

I take back most of what i said in that case.

OK guys and girls thanks very much for your help. Decision has been made and deposit put down until my company issues the cheque so it can be claimed through the cycle to work scheme! Special thanks to el tonto who suggested the Wilier and actually got the same one and to el tel who suggested Border City Cycles in Newry. Picked the bike up for €1,200 so would highly recommend them although they don't carry a massive range until the spring! But have some good mountain bikes there too and they are pretty nice guys to deal with!!
    Cheers!:)

Did you get it in Cycle Surgery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭alfalad

el tonto, got the bike in Border City Cycles in Newry, it's the 08 model but seems to be the same besides paint job as the 09. Spec is the same anyway. Priced it in Cycle Surgery but they weren't competitive!

And prob with the planet x is that they only accept credit card and seeing as my company is paying €1,000 for it through the cycle to work scheme they will only pay in cheque so hence had to go through a shop!
