Without question. The Donkey Kong titles alone would make it the absolute best. Remember swinging through the snowy mountains in the first Donkey Kong Country (obviously as Donkey or Diddy) and in my dreams, me. Starwing (Starfox in Japan) was/is a brilliant game. Not to mention the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II games (arcade perfect conversions of MK, MKII). Super Mario All Stars, Mario World, Yoshi's Island, not only love those games but the music as well. Also Killer Instinct, The Final Fight series. Aladdin and Judge Dredd were brilliant. There are so many others.

    Man! What an awesome console.

I remember having a hacked game cartridge that you could hook other ones on top off to block the lockout chip.

Also; LEGEND OF ZELDA A LINK TO THE PAST.

There is no game library to match the quality of the SNES. Then or now.

I have about 700 or so cartridges. So many unreleased and rare games..

Sometimes I cry just thinking about how awesome it is.

I have most old consoles, I love them all. Which is odd for a 14 year old to be a collector of nostalgic **** already, but whatever.

Also, that Orange Snes up there was a limited edition..

    Only a few were made.

And by a few I mean about 200 or so.

I'd agree that the SNES was the greatest. Still remember the gaming sessions with mates after school. Remember the first time I saw Probotector and was amazed. Street fighter 2, EVO, Secret of Mana, Actraiser.... ah great times.

Dreamcast deserves an honourable mention too though. Shenmue....

Pity nintendo released the glorified gamecube with motion sensitive controllers to compete with 360 / PS3. Disappointed with Wii tbh.

    yes, a great console.

    my favourite games were

    Mario Kart
    Street Fight 2 Turbo
    Super Marioworld
    Super Soccer

I had Bart's nightmares, jesus that was a frustrating game. I emulated it last night and had to use save games to get it finished.

I remember it being released in Japan and the pics of final fight in the magazines, better name in japan, super famicom.

    nintendo_super-famicom_1s.jpg

Compared to the ugly US version.
    super-nintendo-big.jpg

The japanese megadrive had a better colour scheme too.

I think I'm the only person I know who preferred the US-style SNES. I remember being disappointed when they made the announcement that the European SNES would follow the Super Famicom design.

Anyone else remember drooling over this artist's impression?:

he japanese design of the SNES is a design classic, simple and functional yet perfectly proportioned and beautiful.

Not when it's got a ruddy great cartridge poking out the top; and certainly not when it has a US adapter with two ruddy great cartridges hanging out of it poking out the top, as mine normally does.

Haaaa who are trying to kid n64 might of had better graphics but the games were brillant and the number of them

NES, SNES ,and N64 were all great machines. I think the SNES was my favorite. Probably because of the age I was at when it was in its prime. I remember 16 hour days playing SF2 , Mario kart, and Super Contra on two player (super propertector or something like that in EU).

Went to my parents recently to try find my SNES in the attic. Only to find my parents had a big clear out and binned it.

Have all the Snes games in ROM format and a PS2 pad connected to an old PC anyway.

Do you remember how hard games where back then 3 lives, 3 continues. Super Gouls and Ghost was so fu3king hard, and so was Mike Tysons punch out (think that was NES though). god knows how I ever finished them.

Remember the real console war, never mind 360 or PS3 bull. Sega or Nintendo. People used to even fight about how sega was pronounced.

Seaga or Saaga. lol Bring back the 90's!!! lol

SFII Turbo, Super Metroid, DKC, Super Mario Kart, SMW, Starwing... So many happy memories!

I played zelda for 3 and a half days solid til I completed it. 16 hour days too, like that other poster said. Good times. Saw rupees in my dreams for months. By far the most enjoyable game I ever played in my life (apart from the oul horizontal mambo) and I've played *many* a game before and since. We were lucky...

They pronounce Sega 'Seeger' in Australia. The Super Nintendo was pretty awesome though, I rember it was strictly Sega in our house, but the feeling of guilty, brazen lust at being able to play one in a friend's house stirred my prepubescent desire's to no end.

My favourite game will always be Donkey Kong Country.

Snes, yes a lovely machine, however I probably played more Megadrive than Snes during the heyday, then again, I could only afford one at a time being a poor student nurse back in 91, and had feck all games too, only maybe 2 or 3 at a time of them.
Loved Batman Returns on the Snes oddly enough, and Super Mario World of course, my gods, but that game was serious value for money, hours and hours of gaming before I discovered everything.
The Megadrive did have Sonic which I always thought of as merely ok, liked Sonic 3 more, my fave Megadrive games were LHX Attack Chopper together with Road Rash 2 and Biohazard Battle, nothing like LHX on the Snes, really liked shooting mavericks at camels, "Toasted!".
