Missing re-registration date

I am going to be out of the country until the 13th January so I am going to miss the re-registration days in the 1st week of January. I have informed my tutor numerous times, and he has told me its ok if i turn up the week after...and that I might have to pay a "small" late fee. I just got an email there from the student records office that says:

If you do not complete re-registration during the above dates, it will not be possible for the College to claim the relevant tuition fees on your behalf from the HEA/HSE and consequently you will become liable for the payment of the second installment of your tuition fees.

I am doubting my tutor's ability/knowledge, as he is a replacement for my tutor who left for a year sabatical last year, and a very lacadasical lecturer. Any advice will be greatfully appreciated!

You have until Jan 31st to re register anyway
Saturday 31 Last day for students to notify withdrawal from College to qualify for a partial refund of fees paid or a waiver of the second instalment,
as appropriate. Students eligible for the fee remission scheme
must have re-registered with the College by 31 January to enable
the second half of their tuition fee to be claimed by the College
from the H.E.A. on their behalf.

So you will have to visit student records in person in House 5 when you get back to Dublin and sign the docket there

Contacting the senior tutor is probably a good idea but simpler just to ring student records http://www.tcd.ie/vp-cao/sro/vpindexsro.php to confirm and have the above text ready, if the University calendar says it its gospel and the College has not way to penalise you if you complete the task within the times its states

Its not a problem, you can register late and you are almost definitely not going to be asked to pay a fee. I have friends who did it every year cause they were away the first week of term.
