best tv for sd and where to buy?

I have a number of questions around buying a new tv. I want to replace my current 26" 10yr old tv and for a good while was considering the samsung 40a656. But as there is little to watch as yet in HD I'm thinking a plasma tv might be better for my needs (sd tv, dvds). On the other hand I also want my new tv as an occasional pc monitor (got a lot of movies on an external hard drive) and have read in other threads that lcds are better for that.

As for where to buy...online seems cheapest but do komplett.ie or richer sounds in belfast have a good reputation for after-sales service?

Finally, what's the value of insurance? All tvs by law should last at least 3yrs or you can take store to small claims court for just €15? 5yr guarantees out there, e.g. in richer sounds for £90 on samsung 40a656 but I've been told that if a tv has problems it'll have them in the first year or two, and if it lasts 3yrs it'll last 15.

    any opinions?

No hd viewing?? Definitely get a plasma IMO. As for that occasional PC use, the plasma will be grand with that. Its SD viewing that matters the most. You dont need a full HD plasma either. The panasonic 37px80/37pv80 or the 42" version of either, should suit your needs perfectly.

But do plasmas still have significantly shorter life span than lcd, some have suggested just 1/3 the life of lcd?

Plasma's have come on hugely in this area in recent years. They now last as long as lcd, typically about 60000 hours. No worries at all in that area
