Anybody have any experience of Reeve's Pheasants?

I saw in this month's Irish Shooter's Digest, Dec/Jan, page 19, a chap is pictured with a Reeves Pheasant at 61" long which won him first prize in his club. I presume it's a cross breed???

Are they easy to purchase? are they freely available? where can they be purchased? any problems / difficulties with them? are they expensive?

Do clubs just release a handful of these to make the hunt more interesting or what's the procedure?

What are these birds like to hunt....are they runners? .....do they stick tight in cover?.....they must be some sight (at that length) when they rise before your eyes!

I remember reading somewhere there is quite a large breeding population in the south east of England. I haven't seen any in Ireland though.

im not sure but i think that the REEVES cock is monogamos ie. it only mates with one hen that is the reason they are rare ........but what a bird

these kind of pheasant prefers a Woodland areas. Almost big forest is better. They are very territorials and will fight against common pheasant for territory. they are also more resistants than their cousins. Fantastic flyers and more clever than the common.

Concentrate when you shoot if you don't want to see the tail going off. You can be sure that will set your pals for a good laugh ;)

I had the chance to shoot a few of them. when wild they are a terrific game.
