Just to let everyone know that it's finally being released to everyone, I've been a member of the closed beta for just over a month and IMO home is crazy :D:D
It's been a long wait, but we're finally all going Home. SCEE has announced that the service will be available to everyone starting tomorrow. From the looks of it, there'll be no firmware update involved. The Home icon should simply appear under the PSN section of the XMB after a system reboot.

Sony has granted the open beta of Home a firm release date, with the software going live to all PlayStation 3 users from December 11.

K didn't see the other thread, got there before while I was making this one by 6 mins lol
    -mods please remove or merge?

From what I've seen in it and if people are serious about it, it's going to be better than promised

    Home is 'only' a service.

It depends on games making use of it to actually make it good.

I visited home during the beta for two reasons. 1) to play the arcade games in home and unlock their rewards. 2) to redeem my rewards from playing the namco home museum beta.

Item unlocking is Home's killer app for me! I like the idea of picking up loot from games for my home.

However, I do like what I see of the spaces they're announcing now also. Like the Red Bull space with the Pilotwings-style game embedded in it. That's more than I expected from spaces. The spaces in the closed beta were fairly unremarkable, but that looks more ambitious, and more engaging.

Will home be a download from the PSN store? I dont really have an idea what Home is, other than its like the sims/second life?

Ive also got this donload called life with playstation on my menu, but never went near it, is this to do with home?

Life has nothing to do with home. It's a folding application with a news plugin. Home should be on the PSN. They could make it so that you have to download it as part of a firmware release. I don't see that happening.

Great news. I am intrigued as to how Home works, and "plays" out. However, I would much prefer they launch SSF2THD...

    According to PS3 Fanboy

    =======================================
Did you hear? The Home open beta starts today. The client has been patched up to version 1.03 and the servers are down while Sony does various jiggerypokery behind the scenes. TedTheDog states that the service should be back up, along with the launch of open beta, "early PM UK time," though he adds that he can't be more specific than that, thanks to the nature of the global updates.

Ted also confirms that the Home icon will appear on the XMB as soon as the final switch is pulled, though people who are using their PS3s at the time will need to restart. In case you're wondering, it's already past Midday in the UK, so it could go live at any minute. We'll update this post as soon as that happens.

After playing the beta im not one little bit excited about this its basically an AD for sony that you can walk around in.
They will have to add buckets of features to this to make it even a little bit interesting. ill wait untill ive played the full thing first though but im not holding out much hope. But i suppose its free so i cant complain.

So it's a virtual world where you can walk around and chat to other people, yes? Did it help you meet people for online gaming, etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭Dagon

Does it actually look this good:

Dagon : yes thats it its a virtual world not sure how big the full version will be but the Beta was 1 small square with 3 or 4 buildings you could enter ( once you have downloaded that section ) you have your own little appartment that you can decorate and put stuff into again the Beta had very little so im not sure if you will have loads of stuff to start with or if you have to buy it.

If you have ever played that second life thing where sad fat losers with no life walk around "meeting" people then this is pretty much the same thing. If you have a few friends on it may be ok for a little while but for setting up games there are far easier ways such as invite a friend to your game !!!! Or just use the chat feature then you can talk to your mates with out the fear of getting banned for swearing or something silly ( as you get banned from PSN not just home)

Graphics are pretty nice its just that its so boring think of how boring GTA4 was now take out all the cars guns and voilence and add in people with really really bad taste in music that they seem to need to play over a really bad line and you got home!

Seriously lads, don't sit about waiting for it. It's a bit of fun and a nice distraction every now and then but that's all it is unless they have added something new since I was on it last.

€5 to create a club? LOL. I sense the appeal for Home going already.

They're charging 75c for clothing and 99c for furniture. Why would you pay for this shít? Well, maybe if you're drunk or really stupid but apart from that.

I'm sure they'll have freebies too, just like LBP! I always download the free costumes, but never buy any of them!

Can't see it being a big hit now having to pay for near everything, sure I do that in real life, why would I waste my money on a virtual life  :P

The project lost all direction when Phil Harrison left but do they honestly think charging people more is going to bring in new customers
