Question About Daniels, possible spoiler!!

    I'm re-watching from the start all over again and I'm trying to remember...
    Did we ever learn what the Bosses had on Daniels? There are questions about money in season 1 but nothing is revealed

    Didn't he nick some criminals money that had been seized???.. I think he kind of admitted it when talking to his missus at one point

    No,don't think he ever admitted anything. From what I gather we never find out what they had on him. It was mentioned that he had more money in his accounts than he should have had. Also that he doesn't give his people up to IAD,so perhaps people in his unit were dirty and he defended them.

    It is not in Daniels' character to be stealing money. When he thought Herc and Carver stole money in season 1 he went mad and said that kind of stuff doesn't happen in his unit,and the money better be returned.

    Then there was the whole thing with his ex-wife. Everytime they talked about it,she kept saying that it would destroy her if it got out. How exactly,I don't understand. Even in the very last episode of the show,she mentions her career would be over and her position on the council would be lost. It couldn't just have been her ex-husband being disgraced,how would that affect her career? She could easily say she never knew he was into dirt,and that it is her ex-husband,they aren't married anymore,so what would it have to do with her? She must have been directly involved in it somehow. For a while I thought it might have something to do with them having a kid,and losing it or something.

    It was really interesting and kind of annoying that this thing,which was brought up a few times over 5 seasons and which ultimatly led to Daniels's downfall,is never fully explained.

    My take on it is that it is deliberately left vague. We know that he was somehow on the make back in his old unit, but the suggestion being that everyone else was too. I think there is a scene where he explains to Greggs how things were back in the day.

    I quite like the way we never fully learn the extent of his corruption. That way, it comes across as the whole department being riddled with corruption rather than Daniels being just one man acting alone. I think there is also a suggestion that the other high ranking cops had equally chequered pasts.
