So i was planning on getting some new wedges soon and i was just wondering what you guys think in general would be best to do. i already have a standard pw and 60 degree lob wedge, so for my new wedges should i just get a 54 degree, or a 52 and 56 and get rid off my 3 iron?

    54 degree or 52 and 56 degree? 3 votes

Get a 52 and keep the gap between it and lob wedge. I hardly every use the 56, the important gap to have constant is the PW to 52 imo, assuming your PW is 47 or 48.

Your best bet may be to buy a 52 and see how you go and make the decision on whether you need a 56 later.

The 54 is nowhere imo, no good for sand and too much a gap from PW for all those 95-115 yard shots imo.

    Don't agree with this. I have a 52, 56 and 60° and use the 56 a lot. Too much of a gap between 52 & 60. I'd go for 52 & 56 OP

Nobody can recommend wedge specs without knowing your average distance with each of your current wedges. Some use the 4* of separation between each wedge ie, 48, 52, 56 and 60, but it is all really about bridging the gaps distance wise, not loft wise if that makes sense.

Also, don't forget to consider bounce angles!

It all comes down to the individual player i think. For what it's worth i carry the 52, 56 and 60.

I use the 56 from the sand. The 52 degree i've yet to really get to grips with it fully and it's probably my most under-used club. Have been debating whther to drop it for a 5 wood.

What is the make up of your woods OP? And do you carry a hybrid?

For me, the gap from 52 to 60 is too great. But as it has been suggested already, this is quite a personal thing. I use 54 and 60.

To talk about the wedge combination, without taking into account your long-clubs make up is pretty futile IMO.

    You may find this useful...

I've the same, 54 & 60, considering adding a 50 as I'm only carrying 13 weapons at the moment. My pw is 45, so a bit of a gap currently.

    Hi

I went through this dilemma 2 years ago and decided on 52 and 58 degree wedges. I can open the clubface on the 58 and get all the height I need... the 52 can be used at almost any distance inside 100 yards including chipping around the greens.

ive a 54 and a 60. My PW is 48 but dont have much trouble wih distances, The 60 is fine from the sand i think.

I've dropped the 3-iron for the most part (May depend sometimes) and use a 52, 56 and 60 degree wedge. PW is 47 degrees. Even though it is an individual issue, most people would say to focus on getting the yardage from <100 yards consistant and know what each club can do for you yardage wise. I know one pro in particular with 4 wedges and he says that's where he scores best...

Will you score more with 3 wedges or 2 wedges + 3-iron? It's down to your own game really....

i have a driver, 3W and 5W, no hybird then irons from 3-9. will probably drop the 3 iron if i go with the 2 wedges, which personally i think i need to do because the gap between my 55 degree sandwedge and 48 degree pw is too much. the getting a 52 and 58 seems like a really good idea but i only bought my 60 degree pretty recently and i would hate to have to get rid of it already.

I have a PW, then 53 degree and then 60 degree.
The 60 is used when I need loft (duh!) or from sand.
For me the PW is 120 yards, 53 degree is 100 yard carry on my normal shot.
When ever I practice, the shot I would mostly spend time on is a 50 yard shot with the gap wedge so I am comfortable hitting half shots with the club.
If you aren't good at half shots or in-between shots, then maybe get more clubs to bridge the gap...
It would also depend on the type of player you are. For me (a low handicapper), I will often have the ability to drive to <100 yards on shorter par 4's and also be able to hit to <100 yards on par 5's so this is an important distance for me to be good from.
If you don't often find yourself 75 yards from the flag maybe a 56 degree wouldn't be so useful?

    I bought 52, 56 & 60 deg MR2 wedges in 2007. Not your Vokey but I love them.

I find the 56 is the most used, sand & 60 to 95 yds. The 52 is really for 100 to 115 yds. But don't use the 60 that much and its out of the bag at the mo.

But its all down to the player and practice..;)

Personally, I have PW-52*-SW-60* and would use all of them pretty regularly. I guess more so in the summer having said that. Wouldn't swap-out the 60* for anything!

I could really lose the 3Iron and possibly the 4 to be honest but I don't carry a 3Wood, just Driver and Rescue, so I've still only got 14clubs.

I agree, I recently added the 52* because of 2 specific holes on my home course, a short par-3 and a lay-up par 4, and it works. If any club would go it would be the 60*, least used club in the bag. I like my 3 Iron off the tee sometimes.
