Text Editor for Csound?

I'm not really sure if this is the right place to post so feel free to move it if needed.
I usually use the computers in college when I'm using Csound using emacs/aquamacs and the terminal function, at home I'm using Windows Vista(sorry) and command prompt.
Problem is whenever I'm at home and try to save my files in word pad as ".orc" or ".sco" it will always add on the ".txt" for text or ".rft" for rich text which leads to problems running this later. I've tried to download Emacs but can't seem to get it running on my computer.
I might add that I'm not a programming or computer expert in any way shape or form, any help or recommendations would be appreciated!
    Thanks

Not sure about WordPad, but if you're using Notepad in Windows, putting the file name in quotes when you save it (eg, "myfile.orc") will do the trick - it leaves off the .txt extension if you do that.
