That's it i've had enough. Another wasted weekend, spent a fortune, made a dick of my self x2 and rang in sick for work on monday. I'm going on the dry. Hope i can do it as it's really starting to take over my life and things just keep getting worse. It has to stop.
I've set a goal to stay off it until christmas day, i know that sounds weak but it's a step in the right direction and after that i'll try my best.

I wish you good luck mate :) The Non Drinkers forum is probably a good place to go to for tips and advice on keeping off the bottle.

    Well said!
Great sign of maturity... either here already... or announcing it's future arrival.
I can only encourage you towards your healthier ways. Definitely more sustainable long term...

I'm sure it would do you good, to stay off the drink completely for a few weeks.

I've been thinking about this a lot over the last few months.
I had a similar weekend back in September, started drinking Friday afternoon, cured the hangover with a drink on Saturday afternoon, same again Sunday. Woke up on the Monday with a shocking hangover, and I decided, no more hangovers.

I know some people would say "No more drink for a month", and then as soon as the month's up they go on a bender to make up for what they missed.

What do people think about these ideas:
I drink too much so I'm going to quit drinking for a month.
    or
I drink too much so I'm never going to get drunk again.

    Which sounds harder?

I haven't stuck to it completely, and I definitely have woken up a couple of times feeling groggy, but generally, nights where I would have had 2/3 drinks are now 0, and nights where I would have had 5/6 are now 2/3.

I suppose I'm just trying to see if I can enjoy myself without having so much to drink, save a bit of money and still be able to get out of bed the next day and do something, rather than spending the day on the couch.

Or maybe I'm just getting old

I have lost count of the amount of times I've said that in the past. Going out on the beer to pubs/clubs is not good value for money. I remember telling someone once how I spent €45 one night out, and that was before I even had a single drink. Now what I end up doing when I do want to socialise with drinks is go to a friends house. When the drink is gone, it's gone, there is no point running to an ATM because at that stage there is no off-license serving. After those nights out, I generally wake up happy because I have spent a total of about €20, wasn't that drunk, which in all honesty would most likely be due to pub drinking in rounds and someone thinking that shots or tripple this and that are a good idea. So by making all your purchases while sober you eliminate the chance of stupid spending.

You'd be surprised how much fun you can miss out on when you're drunk imo. I don't really drink much anymore myself (was never really into it in the first place if I'm honest, although I would have had a few on the weekends when I first started going to pubs a few years ago). Happy enough not to be drinking, I'm too busy to have to deal with a hangover, and too conscious of what I should be spending my money on to be buying much alcohol in the first place.

I think a good way of rewarding yourself is instead of buying drink to get 'locked', put the equivalent amount of what you'd spend aside. By the time Christmas comes around, you'll be surprised how much is there, and then you can treat yourself to something nicer than a hangover. :)
