Has anyone got any suggestions...??? I have an '89 Jap P-Bass at home and every time i hit the open A i get this horrible buzzing, really loud, i think its hitting off of the first fret wire. I've tried raising the height of the strings but this doesn't seem to be working.....i also adjusted the relief on the neck (very cautiously) but nothing is working. Any geniuses out there who can solve this problem???

Is it clearing the first fret?

Can you take pics of the setup?

it could be a high fret or a replacement nut might do the trick, or even take the nut off and raise it a little yourself... but thats dengerous stuff and what id probably do last

    Yeah....il post some pics tomorrow.
It is clearing the first fret but you'll see when i play on the first fret, where the string hits the wire, right at that point there is an unusual kink in the string. I have changed sets but this problem re-occurs.

A common problem with the Fender design headstock is that the A string goes pretty straight from the nut to the tuner without much of a break angle, which can cause it to rattle in the nut. Make sure the string is wound around the tuner a good 3 or 4 times and that it winds so there is a decent angle over the nut.

i might be waaaay out here, but does the buzzing stop when you hold the tuning heads? had (still have) this problem with an old fenix 5 string. the head of one was loose and when i struck a lower register open note, the thing just started buzzing like mad. like i said though, probably miles out with this idea
