Broken Limbs + Turbo training

    How are you all doing?

I am having to keep my cast ( broken wrist ) for another 5 weeks and 1 day ( if they keep their promises ). I have attempted a few short 35/40 minutes turbo sessions, but find it very uncomfortable, not because of the arm ( I have a nice pillow set up ) but because of the sweat. It gets itchy and sweaty ,,, and even I try and reach as far as I can to clean the cast ... I am kind of scared things are going to start growing in there ... maybe the creation of a new micro universe with very tiny human beings ...

    Anyone has experienced this?

I did it during the summer, i used an old brake cable with to pull baby wipes through the cast to clean it best i could.
Also tryed it with a shoelace all the way through to move the baby wipe... its a bit softer on the skin but you still have to pull it through with something like the brake cable first.

I asked a chemist for wipes that would not irritate my skin if the liquid soaked into the cotton wool inside, they gave me mildly scented ones. I had no reaction but then again everyones skin is different so best ask someone who knows more...

    Good luck

Pour a colony of ants into your cast. They're bound to eat anything that starts growing in there.

Huggies Pure are the baby wipes of champions.

Set your trainer up beside a window and do your training with your arm outside in the cold. If you don't have a convieniantly positioned window, a fridge freezer might do the same job.
If this doesn't do the trick you might have to take all the recent signs on board and take it easy on yourself!

Have you considered the possibility of taking it easy for a few weeks and saving your energy for healing? Nobody would judge you for that (or put you on some 'wimp' list:)).

Seriously though, I think you just hang loose, take a break, whet your appetite for when you spring back into action in the New Year.

    .

    - Endorphines... I miss them
    - Jeans are getting tight
    - The less KMs I lose the better. Don't want to have to start from 0 again
    - I suspect Tiny has some kind of list he secretly keeps ...

Is it possible to do your turbo sessions out doors?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

I think Tiny has a lot of lists going.

I would agree with Raam, get an extension lead and go out in the back garden. That's what I plan on doing anyway.

Unionman also has a point. You might just have to take it easy for the next few weeks rather than tiring yourself out on the turbo.

MMmmmm ... The advantage of being indoors means that:

    - I don't have to wear my full winter gear
    - I watch TV
    - My neighbours don't stare at me from their windows

    ( I love lists ... )

I think I am just going to have to keep the session shortish if I want to hit my max hrm OR keep a low hrm but stay on the turbo longer ... and use the wipes :)

Whats wrong with the neighbours staring. I plan on making it worth their while and doing my turbo sessions in the nip.

I thought in Dublin every bike comes with an invisibility cloak as standard .. and then every cyclist spends a fortune on lights and hi-vis jackets to break the confines of the cloak ....

So I think you would be fairly safe in the nip outside .. as long as you are on the bike

    You are correct! ;)
Bikes also come with a special clause which means, even though you might own a car, you waive all rights to be on the road because you don't pay road tax turn me on in a cycling capacity.

Are we becoming a bit scenical, mentioning Road Tax in every thread?

Reminds me I have to renew mine got the letter last week ... fecking tax!

    I like this new rule.

Free pint* on saturday to whoever runs over to motors and starts a new thread "Everyone on the motors forum turns me on"

*The aforementioned "Pints" do no include alcoholic beverages or soft drinks. Offer only applies to 568mL of tap water.

We really should get that rule put in. Just think of the zany posts that will ensue as a result of some unwitting poster falling foul of it.
