Speaking of stupid wastes of military money for PR...

Did anyone catch Top Gear on Sunday? A full-on beach assault by Royal Marines including lots of pyrotechnics and helicopters to land a Ford Fiesta. It must be said, the Ford held up rather well: It didn't flood or mire despite being landed by an LCVP in several feet of water, the hand grenades fitted nicely into the cup holders, and the Marines inside seemed to have no problems with firing out the windows, the brass happily not hitting Clarkson.

Meanwhile, from the other side of the Atlantic, these repeated wastes of government taxpayer's money.

Obviously the Irish military fails miserably if the biggest waste of money they can come up with is sending a single helicopter to a rugby football game.

I'm extremely angry with said Marines, not for the whole Fiesta beach assault.

There was a once in a lifetime opportunity to drop Jeremy Clarkson overboard and they didn't seize it! The guy pisses me off no end.

Top Gear has a massive budget for each show i would bet the bbc payed for the Marines.
The flyovers are worth every penny!

They wouldn't have paid too much. Turn on any Channel on Sky that is English. Look how many BA ads you see. Now Look at the number of RM Ads you see!!! There are actually more RM ads than BA ads, because the RM want more people.

This was a way to advertise to a different audience as well who would just turn over when they see an ad during commercial breaks!!!

I'm sure the RM didn't charge, they viewed it as PR. Similarly, Ford should probably have paid for the segment, the Fiesta came out fantastically!

I'll have you know the FCA landed on the Normandy beaches in 1944, indeed they provided the bulk of the landing forces. They also provided the bulk of both sides during the Battles of Stirling and Falkirk.

Then of course you already knew that.
