Southside Writing Course

My husband and I have a language arts organisation, WordWorks, and we have a creative writing class opening up this January. I'm careful not to use the board to advertise the business. But because someone in the "Help Me Write My Novel" thread mentioned wanting to join a group in which everyone uses the same plot lines and then shares what she or he has written, I wanted to let everyone know about the course.

Every week participants are given a prompt based on a published piece of work. At home, each participant reads the work and then writes something based on the prompt. For example, in one of my courses this week, we read Claire Keegan's Antartica. At home, everyone is writing a story in which someone goes on a journey, commits a petty crime or ordinary sin, and then faces the worse possible outcome. At the end, the protagonist is still stuck in the predicament. That's Antartica in a nutshell! This approach has proven not only a lot of fun but also a method by which people are producing some remarkably strong work.

In addition to working hard to help participants generate strong material and have fun, we have selected a facility that allows us to really play host, to offer participants a pleasant and warm experience after-work. The room is lovely. And we'll have fresh coffee and tea on offer, along with some edibles.

If you're interested in the course, our email is wordworks@ymail.com and our phone is 086-243-8604.

    All the very best!

    Heidi
