no no! if you walk out of the sports center, (the one with the gym and such) follow the dart bridge, down by the side of the lloyd and its the old gray building on the right, the first one!

All the more reason to arrive nice and early, you'll avoid the crowds of people looking for their name on the list!

Best of luck with the exams, hope they go well!:D

    And it's pronounced Loo-kay, btw.

But my exam timetable has SPORTSHALL and LUCE HALL. Same thing?

We were deliberating between "Loose" and "Loochay" today.

Luce Hall and Sports Hall are in the same building, you just go in different doors. (Sports Hall door is closer to the dart line I spose.)

Luce is downstairs, sports hall is upstairs. To get into Luce you go in the front entrance, sports hall side entrance and up the stairs.

Same place, one you go in the door at the front, and one you go in the door round the side (where the squash court is). Can't remember which one is which, but it should say it on the noticeboard where the seat numbers are posted.

It's Latin; either an ablative of quality [with light], or a local ablative [in light]. Cs are hard in Latin, hence Caesar being pronounced Kaiser.

We were taking the Italian word actually, which has a "ch" afair for that c.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

That is correct. Then it would just mean Light Hall though. Two nouns.

Is it not named after a person anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Yeah, perhaps.. that would be the only rational explanation for it being pronounced Loose.

Exams in the sports hall annoyed me, cause it meant I couldn't play squash.

Weird. It was always referred to as 'loose' hall when I was in Trinity.

    Meetings and otherwise.

    Ditto.

Yes, it's Luce (loose) Hall. It's a big Miesian box named after father and son AA and JV Luce, who were both Senior Fellows and keen supporters of DUCAC.

Hehe, one of those situations where the attempt to see the latin naming background to many things in trinity backfired - go Loose Hall!
