Does anybody know where I might be able to buy Father Ted episodes with Portuguese subtitles?

I'd actually be interested in this as well. It'd be a great way of explaining Ireland to the foreign language students

Are you thinking of something along the lines of the KMPlayer with an overlay subtitle file?

VLC automatically adds subtitles from the same folder usually or can manually be pointed to their location for import.

SMplayer will go one better and automatically download them for you.
You can get them all here

Hopefully subtitles aren't some kind of copyright infringement.

Probably is actually; I know one case when it was argued that translation (by amateurs) was infringing because they used the copyrighted text as starting point.
