I have a tight foreskin. I know i cant ask for medical advice here, so im going to have to go and see a doctor. What im wondering is though, do i just go straight up to my local doctor and book an appointment? I dont want to have to go through the embarrassment, and then pay him, only to be referred to another "specialist". What should i do?

Go to your dr there are a range of treatments you can do which your dr will explain to you before you have to go see a consulant and one of those might work for you.

I have a similar problem. Although I have yet to do anything about it - my GP will be the first step, you probably will then get a referral for a specialist. Don't be embarassed, (s)he will have seen many many many foreskins. Best of luck with it, I must take my own advice soon !

Just go see someone, they see it everyday so it's the most normal thing in the world for them.

MAsturbate, I'm serious, sufficient masturbation(3-4 times a week) reduces phimosis.

you'll have to go to your GP first, and they'll refer you. I've been in the same boat here. The GP probably won't check you for long, and I promise you, while you may feel embarrassed at the GP, you won't at the specialist.

The only thing I can say to you is that this won't go away by itself. You will have to see your GP, you will probably have to see a specialist. The sooner you get the ball rolling, the sooner it will be over - so just stop thinking about it and do it - I promise you, it's worse in your head then it is in reality, the only way you'll find that out for yourself is to do it.

Definately go see your GP, and don't worry, there is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about!!!

I had the exact same thing a while back, and it seemed like circumcision was the only option open to me.

But dude (if this is a guy), seriously, masturwank, or just pulling the foreskin back gently, stretching it ACTUALLY works.

2 months on, not a bother

OP, I'll ask the same of you as I've asked to the dozens of posters who have started a thread on this since my op - if we've helped you in any way, can you please pay us back (not that you need to of course) by posting back on this thread and letting people know what the experience at the doc was like.

Even though I went through the exact same thing as you, all the same emotions and worries and embarrassment, I'd consider it totally worth it if it de-mystified the whole thing for the probably hundreds of guys who are reading this thread and suffering in silence with the same problem.

It really surprised me how many messages I got from guys who were in the same boat as me. It's too many, in fairness, it makes me annoyed that more isn't being done by the HSE about it - that's another thread, in another forum.

But the simple fact is, you're losing out on quality of life, and you only get so much of it you know! This is something that can be treated easily and quickly and it's not something to be embarrased about - I can see that now, of course. So seriously - get yourself to the doctor, get rid of this nagging worry and then let others know how easy it really is.

    ^ This.

It's a lot easier, simpler and there is nothing even slightly embarrassing about it. When you build it up in your head, it is, but when you actually go, it's nothing and you'll regret not just going and getting it looked at in the first place instead of worrying needlessly!!!

    I had that too.

My GP referred me to a Urologist who performed a Frenduloplasty - an operation to loosen things up.

This apparently works 90% of the time (it did for me). If unsuccessful the next option is
    circumsision.

Tight 4skin is prone to ripping/bleeding - can be embarrasing!

    G'luck mate.

    Had the same issue myself.

Apparently in varying degrees it affects 5-10% of the male population. Its very common and easily fixed.

Saw GP - he referred me to a urologist, who recommended and carried out a circumcision. Minor surgery, quick recovery. No downside in terms of function or sensitivity. Absolutely worth it on every level.

I'd say overcome the embarrassment and see your GP - there are a variety of remedies as others have referred to, and you'll feel a whole lot better afterwards.

Had it bad when I was very young, the GP started me off with stretching (slowly, careful does it). Eventually (after a year or so) it was normal. Then I hit puberty and the same story, returned to stretching, fine after about 3 months and not a bother since.

Plenty of options, go see your GP :)

Stretch it in the shower, hot water helps. Or use lube when 'getting busy' and it'll help too.

OT, but the thought of the old chap ripping...:confused:

Look, he's/she's a medical professional, they've probably seen this a dozen times before, relax go in, ask them to check it out, either get a referal, or a steroid cream.

I can't believe that so many guys have this, I also have this and have been to see a urologist and circumsicion was what was suggested, between one thing and another I have not gone ahead with the operation but am now seriously thinking about it again. My question is whether or not it is covered by Vhi/ bupa etc or is this an existing condition? If it is not covered, does anyone know how much this is likely to cost? As for the OP the visit to the gp is absolutely fine, they are v professional and its not as weird as you think it will be.
