I have a 20'' tv LCD which has fairly crap sound.

I also have two Mini Hifis. One has no inputs but I used one of those mp3-cassette devices people use in cars and plugged that into the headphones socket on my LCD and I get a sound. Debatable whether it is better then the LCD itself (you need the LCD volume turned up quite high and cos it uses the tape deck there is a slight buzzing I guess you could call it).

The other Hi Fi has an audio in and so could use a simple 3.5mm Jack to plug that into the headphones socket on the TV. Would that be better?

Is this above any beyond what the Headphone socket is meant to be used for?

Would you expect the speakers on a Mini Hi Fi to beat a 20'' monitor for sound etc?

Im too cheap too buy a real system before anyone gets smart.

EDIT: I haven't tried it with a games console yet but it seemed slightly better with a DVD.

Depending on both the brand of the hifi with the input the sound might very well be better than the speakers on the LCD, then again it may not. What games system do you want to hook up to the hifi?

The one without a audio-in is a Philips.

The one with an Audio-in is a Sony.

A ps2 or ps3. To be honest I can't see any other way of doing it than simplaying playing everything through the tv as Im doing. Although saying that I watched a dvd tonight and it was defo better-but better than a 20'' LCD's speaker isn't saying much.

How do you plan on connecting the PS3 to the TV? Unless you use composite, component or scart you won't get stereo out of the PS3 as when you use a digital cable the only option is for sound through HDMI or the optical output.

While it won't be the best setup sound through a micro hifi would be better than the lcd speakers if it's a cheaper brand.

But if I have the jack connected from the audio in on the HI-FI to the Headphones socket on the TV then the ps3 being connected doesn't come into the equation.

Am I making sense? I mean I played a DVD, but the dvd just sent a signal to the tv and the headphones jack sent it to the HI FI. Just replace DVD with PS3 in that sentence and thats the best I could realistically get. Better then the sound the Samsung has on its own is all I really need,

Ah yes yes yes I get you now. Hmnnn to be honest I can't imagine that setup being better than simply using the speakers from the TV. It's not a direct connnection and you're utilising two cables and two pieces of electronics to process the sound.

Does it sound better to your ear?

I can certainly here background effects/music better (and thats with the tape deck-I figure it would be slightly better with the Sony since that a proper audio in slot).

My old 20'' Brick Beko had better sound than this Sammy.

Its about 3 times more speaker-age (the 2 mini-hi-fi speakers compared to the tiny yoke on the LCD.

Anyway Ill try it with the Sony tomorrow.

Well if it sounds better to you isn't that the main thing?! If it sounded better with the tape option then it should be alot clearer with the sony system.
