Hi There, i have a garmin 610 that isnt booting up properly. On pressing the power button, the screen illuminates to about 50% normal brightness and "pre boot mode" message flashes at the bottom of the screen. After approx 5 seconds, the screen changes to normal brightness and the message dissappears. At this stage, the unit freezes up and powers down.
has anybody come across this before, and if so, could you please throw some light on the subject?
    thanks a mil

You might want to update the firmware:

Yes use Garmin Support or Garmin web Updater to try and fix.

Otherwise Download and backup all your favourites etc using Trip & Waypint Manager - then power off, Put your finger firmly on bottom right hand corner of the screen and keep pressed - power on - keep finger pressed on corner of screen until message appears asking you do you want to clear user data. At this point if this appears things are looking good but if you say yes and you have not been able to download your favourites then all this will be lost but maybe the unit will be working again!!

    Try the updater first!
