Folks. Is it safe to transport a carbon fibre bike with a car bike rack?

Yes, but take care to protect the touch points. If any parts of your frame are rubbing off something else, wrap them with some padding or cloth. This will reduce the chances of abrasions.

Thats what I was worried about. Its a new bike (my first carbon bike) so I am a bit paranoid. Thanks for the advice.

I'd suggest either getting a rack that goes on the roof, or a car big enough to put the bike in the boot (paranoid after losing a rear mounted bike to a traffic collision a few months ago -was only my fixies, but would have hated it to be the road bike, and that's only aluminium!)

For what it's worth, I rarely use the rack. I'll always put the bikes in the boot/rear seat if I can.

I have put pipe insulation foam on to my boot mounted bike rack, works well and protects the bike, but this weekend I noticed that the bike rack is leaving 2 slight rub marks on the boot. (only use the rack 5/6 times since changing my car) might have to invest in a roof rack.

Cant, car will be full of kids and roof will have luggage box on top.
    Thanks anyway.
Kids are a sure fire way to quadruple ones luggage requirements.

If you go the roof mounted one you've gotta be rediculously cautious and aware of O/h barriers etc - wrote off a carbon frame at the end of a long drive because I forgot that fact....:(

Get a child rack for the back of the car, and a 'Baby OUTboard' sign :)

    Bikes are more valuable :)

    Roof box and bikes?

    It is possible:
