I want to start up my own trading name. Initially, i want to simply use a trading name then later set it up as a limited liability company.

There are a few questions i would like to pose.
    • Are there agencies, government or the likes that i should approach for advice and assistance
    • How do i go about setting up reg'ing a trade name
    • How do i go about setting up a .ie or .eu domain name that i can use for email now and later a website

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    start with www.cro.ie

It's the companies registration office, they also take care of business name registration. You'll need to register a company or a business name to apply for a .ie address.

Have a look at http://www.startingabusinessinireland.com/ for general advice on starting up.

    Good Luck!

You can register a .ie domain name with any Irish hosting company there are certain restrictions that you should be aware of and the applicant must prove an entitlement or connection to the name they want to register, please see the full IEDR domain name registration terms at the following page on our website (.eu domains are less restricted)

Snyper, start up admin stuff like domain names and that stuff is the easy part. Most importantly, I'd suggest be very sure how you will market the business and have a very clear sales strategy.

    At the moment, you have:

    (1) Getting the work

    (2) Doing the work

    (3) Getting paid for the work

As things stand, (1) is the easiest part of the process...

So make sure you know who you are selling to and how you will be paid. Obviously doing the work to the required standard is extremely important, but at your peril ignore the other two, because getting these two right is the difference between having a hobby and running a business...

    (4) and make a profit, if not forget everything else.

To answer your question about agencies for business start-up, first port of call would be your local city or county enterprise board for a SME. These boards are geared to helping and encouraging people to start their own business. They can be a pain in the neck when it comes to filling in forms etc. But they can also provide independant mentoring services, which I found to be a real help. Also, courses in business development.

If you want to employ more than about 5 or 10 people from the start, try the IDA (they're always keen to help employers) and if you live in the Gaeltaght(sp) contact Udras.

Rule 1 - make sure you have a market!!!!!!!!
