The UK training setup has changed since I was a probationer. I don't know a great deal about the new system personally other than each force now trains its own officers to a national standard (forces outside the Met used to send their officers to one of 4 Police Training Colleges while Met probies went to Hendon), but here's info on current force programmes that may help with your dissertation:

Background to the new training programme - NPIA

    Greater Manchester Police

    Thames Valley Police

    South Yorks Police

    Norfolk Constabulary

To join the Police you must meet the entry criteria, including having been resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to application. You complete a competency based application form which is then paper-sifted.

On passing this you will be invited to an assessment centre where you will do timed written tests in verbal and numerical reasoning, situational scenarios, and a report writing exercise. After this you will undergo a number of role-play scenarios to see how you react under certain simulated conditions. Following this you will undergo a formal interview.

If you pass the assessment centre the next step is a medical exam and a fitness test. Passing this stage you will undergo police vetting where your background (and that of your family, friends etc) will be looked into, personal references sought and your financial status checked.

After successfully passing this you may be offered employment, though some forces operate a final interview. The recruitment process takes anything from 12 months to 3 years in some cases.

On that site is a link to their main page with details of recruitment for people starting anew.

I do feel your pain but this should be worth a good 1500 to 2000 words

As a resuilt of my own research which also looked at other forces I can tell you this: Canadian mounties, Queensland police and PSNI press offices will bend over backwards to help you with whatever your looking for.

No offence to Metman but the MET and MYPD didnt even reply to my requests whereas the SFPD replied but only telling me to look at their website. I assumed that the other forces that did not reply was because I asked in English and not their native tongues

Eh, excuse me, I was privately educated from secondary school right up to third level and after my degree I sat professional exams alongside UCD, TCD, UCC, NUI students and scored equal and in a lot of cases, greater points in these exams, please do not generalise ALL privately educated people.
