AFAIK, A fuel pump relay is the same as any other 12 volt relay in a car any decent motor factors should have one.

..............it depends on the system. I have worked on an early 944 and they have a "DME" relay which gives a signal to the ECU and then powers the fuel pump.

They do give trouble and cost about €45. You can by-pass them if needs be, to get the car driving and to ensure this is the fault.

Not sure if the 924 is the same.

isn't the 924 fuel system the same as a similar year Golf GTI? If it's not, it's not far from it...

check out some of the 924 specific sites, there's a couple out there, including one that lists interchangeable parts if I remember correctly...

........yes I'd say you are right, and thinking about it most Bosch systems of that era would have used a similar relay. You could try bring the relay to a desent motor factor, or a VW dealer.

There are 2 different fuel pump relays for the 924. There is a pre electronic ignition <79 and an electronic ignition post 79. They are not interchangable. You boys are correct in saying a good Bosch stockist will have them off the shelf. ;)

So mine being a 1979 would have which one?

    Thanks

I think if you find the relay you should give it a few taps to see if it springs to life. Then pluck it out and bring it with you.

A pre-electron ic ignition will have contact breaker points under the distributor cap, you could pop iot off and take a look, but really bringing the old relay with you would be the best method.

I know of the GTI Golfs they gavce trouble occasionally whereas the 2.0i Opel gave lots of trouble with these relays, the car would fail to start when hot, but a sharp tap on the relay got them going.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I've had trouble with the fuel pump relay in my '86 928. The relay in my car is the same as many of the other ones, like the horn, etc. Some of mine are badged VW, so it is a common relay. Does it look like this? (note the number 141951253)

If so, I've ordered a few new ones and should have them in the next few days. If you're near Lucan, feel free to come over and I'll give you one of them for free. But as others said, it's probably generic. Bring it to your local motor factors and they should be able to tell you.
