saw this which might be of interest

have a canon flatbed scanner myself that comes with a negative slide attachment. does the job reasonably well. you could try looking for something similar

keep your eye open for a minolta dimage scan elite 5400 or 5400 II - dedicated film scanner.
Bought one 2nd hand last year (working on scanning the back catalogue)

It's a great machine (using it with vuescan) getting very good results from neg and tran.
