Crack in Exhaust

Hey All, when I was getting my 99 Fiesta serviced the other day the mechanic told me there is a crack in the exhaust? I was just wondering if it's worth fixing or just selling the car for parts? It's only got 57,000 miles on it and I've never had a days trouble. What kind of price am I talking to get a new exhaust fitted?

    Cheers

Fix it. Exhaust is a minor detail. You may even be able to weld the crack for a few Euro

I dont think it will cost that much to fix, id bring it down to fastfit or so and get a price before you think of selling.

Agree with welding, got my exhaust welded a few times, a lot of the time they break off at the clip and is a simple repair for any mechanic with a welder.

If it cant be welded then worst case scenario is you have to buy a part of an exhaust, they usually come in 3 pieces so you will only need to replace the part that is gone. Cant imagine a Fiesta exhaust costing much.
Certainly not worth selling the car over if its going well apart from that.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

One of my headlight bulbs is gone. Should I replace it or sell the car for parts (of course, it mightn't be worth much with the duff light)? I've just paid for a service as well - typical!

I'd say it is hardly worth welding in this day and age. I don't imagine an exhaust costs much so long as the Cat is ok.

my exhaust snapped in half last week just after the cat,and cost 300euro to replace!!! including a new cat, its one piece from the manifold to the backbox, apparently there tricky to weld if the metal is dodgy (which it was) didnt want to start a new thread for this but why does it say peugeot on the part description????

The same happened to mine, had to fork out for a new cat & mid box section, the guts of 300 euro. Peugeot 306/106 & Saxo's are quite prone to this due to alot of engine movement going down the manifold and causing damage to the exhaust further down. Mine was too rusted to weld back up.

OP; Get it welded up, a mate got his GTi welded up for a 10er a few months back and it hasn't caused any hassle at all.

Chances are, they used a spurious cat or a refurbished cat ( perfectly fine ), hence why it looks different. Cat's are quite expensive as they are full of precious metals, so alot of them recycled/refurbished and re-used or its a spurious one hence why it probably looks different to your old one.

The cat may look different, but once it fits mechanically and physically then I'd say you're OK. As for the smell, well it's oil burning so that sounds like a different problem. Get it seen to as it may have been what damaged your original cat and you don't want the new one to go the same way............

I doubt it's a spurious cat as it was branded Peugeot but it may well be a refurb.
