Lead training and hiking

We haven't started lead training yet, so obviously this is a little while away but how old will a pup have to be before we can bring him for long hikes. Neither of us are very fit, so we're not talking walking miles and miles here, :D but a few hours stroll in the wicklow mountains or a walk up the sugar loaf with our pup would be nice. I just dont want to push him too hard.

Also, when lead training, should we hvae him walking well before attempting a longer walk, or am I right in thinking that the longer walks will help, in that by the time we are returning he will be too tired to do anything but walk. :)

    Thanks

    Hi Helena,
Young pups only need short walks. There is a risk of damage to their legs if you over walk them when they are young. You can start walking a pup once they're fully vaccinated, but short walks are fine for now.
