Was watching Big Fight Live last night, and one of the boxers came out to the theme tune Time to play the game.

    Are they allowed?

Does WWE own rights to this theme tune or can it be used anywhere?

The rights to the song belong to Motorhead, same way as the rights to Edge's theme belong to AlterBridge and so on.

Pretty much, which is why the likes of Taker's American Badass and Rollin' on past PPV's have been overdubbed with You're Gonna Pay on the Summerslam Anthologies.

Basically, the artists and/or record label own the rights. If WWE get to use them, it's because they got permission to. And there's two different sets of laws over there, one for home video (DVD) and one for on air (TV) distribution.

A good example of this was Summerslam 03, where Metallica weren't going to allow St Anger to be used on the DVD, but because WWE agreed to include the promo video as an extra (to promote the album), it was allowed left in. But it's overdubbed on the Anthology version, due to the fact that there are no extras, period.

Did Limp Bizkit not allow it either?

Nope, withdrew in 2002 save for the live performance at Mania XIX. Although that was more a record company issue rather than an artist issue.

Hence why his Limp Bizkit entrances are overdubbed in the Summerslam Anthologies. Not sure about the Mania ones as i only got 1-11 as i had the originals of the rest.

i love limp bizkit, but i never knew that.

So then them being called WWEs favourite band of all time was a lie. :(
    A dirty rotten lie.

I'm guessing you skipped the part where i pointed out the difference between the record company and the artist allowing it. ;)

I actually saw this as well last night. I think WWE own the song, hence why it's been used for over 7years now.

"The Game" was added on an extra bonus disc for the release of Motörhead's album "Hammered". On the CD case James A Johnston is credited with writing it and it was "licensed from Smackdown Records. Published by: Stephanie Music/Cherry River Music.

Jim Johnson and the WWE may have helped write it, but if the record company hold the rights to it, then they can do whatever they want with it. :)

Yeah but who's the record company ?
The "Hammered" CD I've got has "licensed from Smackdown Records. Published by: Stephanie Music/Cherry River Music" printed on the back. I'd put money on it that Motorhead have never performed the song live at a gig other than for WWE at WrestleMania. Have a look at Lemmy's face at WM21, he looked very unimpressed and their performance was rubbish.

Based on the credit on that CD I have I'd say WWE own the rights or at least part rights to the track. Otherwise they'd probably have to pay royalties.

I don't get the point of this thread, WWE or one of its subsidaries own the song, they are meant to get paid royalties just like anyone else who owns a song used in the same way. What's to discuss?

Triple H is a lifelong diehard Motorhead fan, WWE won't ever sue em.

    Who's suing who

I was a Motorhead fan , probably in part due to the exposure from Trips' song.I wouldn't be too fond of them anymore, saw them a few years ago the night after I'd seen James Brown in the Olympia. Very very different atmostpheres :pac:

From the best that I can tell, this boxer who was coming out to "The Game" probably isn't paying royalties to whomever royalties should be paid to. It wasn't a huge event I don't think , I'm sure if it was Brock Lesnar coming out to it at a UFC gig then that'd be a different story.

Been a fan since they released 1916, still am to this day. 1916 is still my fave album from the band. :)

Nah, not really, once offs at occasional live broadcasts aren't too bad unless the record companies put out a cease and desist order (like they did on WWE back in the mid 80s for using the likes of Springsteen, Queen, etc), you seriously think UFC are paying all that dosh for copyrighted material for all their fighters? No they're not! That's why the intros are cut out on the DVD releases. Live performances are one thing, DVD distribution is another.

I'd a feeling you might've been a fan what with your tattoos and your long black hair and denims and leathers and motorhead t-shirts :p
You like to keep your cards close to yr chest though dontcha ;)

Ah yeah, I totally understand the distribution thing. Sure, RTE didn't release that Reeling in the Decades thing for ages cause of distribution stuff.

Wow, I gotta ask you about this! Wrestlers coming out to the ring to Springsteen ? AND QUEEN!!! haha, are there any funny mentions ? Did Ricky The Dragon Steamboat come out to "Dancer in the Dark" ? Don Muraco strolling to the ring to the sounds of "We will, We will, ROCK YOU" ??:pac:

I feel sorry for you kid if you show up at that meet, just for the sheer disappointment you're setting yourself up for. Just remember, it was never my fault ;)

Fraid not, but Hogan's original music was "Born In The USA" while Windham and Rotondo used "Real American", then the tag team was dissolved and the distribution law came in so Hogan got "Real American", Junk Yard Dog's theme was "Another One Bites The Dust" before the WWE produced "GramDEMCakes!"

Funny you mention Steamboat, due to those said laws, "Sirrius" by the Alan Parsons Project had to be overdubbed on the Wrestlemania Anthologies. And then Animotion's "Obsession" was then changed to a WWE produced theme for Saturday Nights Main Event.

Fine. I'll just print this pic off and celotape it to the inside of a pair of glasses and each time I want to talk to or look at you I'll wear my special internet proof glasses so I'll only be seeing this :

How hard is it to find clips of Hogan coming out to Born in the USA ?

This actually made me chuckle, especially as i have stated more than once that i can't stand Scott Levy and he wasn't the reason i picked that name change. But there are some people we just can't get through to. ;)

First couple of Saturday Nights Main Events, however if they're the 24/7 versions, they will have been overdubbed.

I know, you said it to me before, that's why I made it. Maybe you've got some Freudian thing were you say you hate Levy but you really love him.

No way, Raven sucked, although Johnny Polo was awesome. :)
