Another Controller Problem - LittleBigPlanet

I’ve been having a problem with my wireless controller when playing LittleBigPlanet– can any body help?

Firstly –
I already had the latest firmware (2.53) before any problem,
I only have one controller & its fully charged

I have the LittleBigPlanet approx 10 days and everything worked fine until I was prompted last night to install the latest software for the game when I loaded it. After the download had been installed I loaded the game and navigated to the level I wanted to play. (This obviously involved using the left & right movements of controller and the X button)

When the level loads I am able to press triangle to read the level introduction and then circle to exit. I can then move my character / sackboy about but I can’t jump. I when I press X nothing happens. (Pressing Square etc don’t work either. If I press select to launch the ‘Good Grief’ menu I can’t exit out of it because Circle don’t work......)

If I press the playstation home(?) button and turn off the controller and then turn it back on I can press X to jump etc but my sackboy is frozen on the spot, I can’t move him!!

BUT (as im still at the very start of the level) if I then press triangle to read the introduction to the level and then exit, I can then move but can’t jump!

The only button that always works is the playstation home(?) button but only if I hold it down (but not simply pressing it as I can’t select anything). If I hold it down I can select quit game etc.

This is driving me mad!!

I have also reset the controller using a pin into the small hole at the back. This makes no difference. I have tied playing with the usb cable attached but again no difference.

I still have no problems playing FIFA and Wipeout HD…..

Has anybody any suggestions? I’ve email Sony but don’t expect any response very soon. I tried calling them but gave up after 45 mins on hold..

Try resetting controller maybe

Is correct.

I've since backed everything up and reset the system. Still same problem.....

Another example of my problem - step by step;

Turn on PS3 from controller (without usb cable attached)
Navigate to internet browser. (I can move freely in main menu at this stage)
Once browser launched the controller won't move the curse. No buttons work.

To get out out the internet browser i can have to press the PS button, select turn off the system. I can move freely yes and no options but i need to rebot.

If i was to select turn off the controller, then turn it back on and straight away keep pressing circle very quickly - as soon as the controller kicks in i get the option to close browser and if quick enough i can press X to exit. If i wait a spit second then controller freezes up.

However this is a bit pointless as, if i was quick enough this only leads back to main screen where it then locks up again

Any suggestions please?

Do you mean the Profile Data under the main game section? This file is 4743 KB in size. I think the LBP update was about 15 MB. I don't know where to find the update file......

Will this mean i loose all my progress for the past 10 days or so? Will this solve my other example above?

Yes, delete that file and when you insert LBP again it should reinstall the game data on the hard-disk! It won't affect your progress in the game as that is saved in a different file!

It may fix your problem with LBP, but I doubt it will fix any problem with your Internet browser!

I dont have LBP so im only guessing.

If you go to the game menu on the main menu and go up to the very top, there is a folder called "Game Data" or something (not "Game save") And i presume thats where all updates get installed to.

You have it backed up so not to much can go wrong right?

Just delete the LBP planet file from game data and see what happens.

I would presume your levels and sackboys etc are stored in a separate file in Game save, but i'm guessing

Jason, cheers for your help but i'm showing my newbie knowledge here. I've got four difference files for LBP. The above file still the correct one?

The first two are Under "Game Data Utility"
1) LBP Downloadable content 1067KB (think this is a new character costume)
2) the next is simply called LBP but is 484 MB and is version 1.05
3) The third is under "Saved Data Utility" and this is the 4743 kb file i mentioned above
4) The last is in my Trophy collection (but i don't think i need worry about this one)

Oh crap, no...sorry about that! I misread the original post. Option 2 it is! The data saved onto the hard drive is generally going to be the biggest file and is always going to be under Game Data Utility!

Update;

OK i delete the 484MB file from option 2 above and then reinstalled the game. This prompted me to download the latest software for the game. (4 separate files ranging from 10 MB to 50 MB). The installation has just been complete - when i load the game i have all my previous content available but the problem hasn't been fixed.

I don't know to be honest...it's only LBP and your internet browser? Unless there's a problem with your firmware update? You could try downloading it here and reinstalling it!

Save this to a USB stick in a folder called UPDATE and put that in a folder called PS3 and when you hit System Update, select via Storage Media!

After restoring the factory settings on the machine and it still not working i spent a good hour finding my gamestop receipt. Thankfully gamestop exchanged the controller for another one - no problem at all. Just back in house now and all appears to be working fine.
Very strange how controller wouldn't work in game but would in themain menu! Ah well - sorted now

But sur they exchanged they faulty one for new one FOC, how is it my loss?? Anyways im off work today and the cdwow one wouldn't be here for about a week. .......will look into it for christmas:D
