i won an ebay auction for some golf clubs (us$205) and have been offered these shipping options.

    which should i choose?

    FedEx International Priority shipping = $55 (total = $260)
    UPS Worldwide Express shipping = $70 (total = $275)

id rather pay duty (rather not actually:D) at the door cash on delivery than a month later via a late fedex invoice route, will ups allow this?

Can't recall a single shipping firm that lets you pay cash in hand at the door tbh.

UPS can except cash on delivery. I got camera lens from germany and I paid for it at my door.

    @311
would there be any extra charges from germany ?

anyway i might of been thinking of usps (american version of an post).
i did some checking and heres what i got.

duty on golf clubs is 2.5% as far as i know

so duty and vat = 24% on top of the total including shipping

    then
add 18 euro handling for ups, fedex etc
    or
add 6 euro handling for usps, an post route

(usps an post route = slight chance goods might slip through without any duty vat or handling charges )

(fedex, ups = guaranteed to get charged full duty vat & handling charges)

    does this sound right ?
anyone pay duty&vat by C.O.D with UPS from the US ?

As far as I can remember ,there was a built in surcharge for cod.

I got fedex billing me a month later, an post asked for cash at the door once. (both duty, not COD)

I paid fedex several months, and several solicitors letters later ;) Think it was just paid over the phone via C/C.

I get all my stuff delivered to my workplace, seems to come faster and I have only been charged duty once. I think they figure we might be using the items in work so would be claiming the vat back anyway. That is not reason I do it though, just nobody is at home during the day and my letterbox is unusually small.

Yeah sorry ,I was thinking along the lines of them accepting cash.
They'd probably have to have an invoice for the vat ,if they were going to take money.

    Excuse moi.

thanks for the replies, i probably should have been clearer typing COD when i meant to say prepay for the delivery first and then pay for the duty by cash when the goods arrived.

anyway i added a set of irons to the 3 woods i bought and now am being quoted $95 for delivery which after fedex brokerage admin charges and vat on delivery will be closer to $140.

pretty extortionate when USPS delivery would be $50 ($60-$65 after vat on delivery). i only bought all the goods from the same store so i could combine shipping costs.

there .com store give the option of shipping via USPS so im trying to get them to go that route now. hopefully they will accommodate.
