    Hey Gang,

After finishing my 2-10, i arrived home to watch a small bit of tv and decided to watch J1 - looking at young fellas doing the whole "travel thing" that i never done before joining. Now, im just wondering, have any members on here done serious travelling once they have joined or is it only 1/2 week holidays?

Would you consider it? Whats the best way to play the system?

    Regards,

    Dave

    Very misleading title scubadave. :D:D

I thought we were going to discuss the merits of leaving the force to join the travelling community.

Iv done it... got nearly 3 months away.... it means no leave for bout 2 years though... i'll explain ;)

    When out of probation
    1) carry forward as much leave as super will allow at start of april,
    2) then take as little leave as you can that leave year until march,
    3) application to sgt asking to take all that leave together (will always oblige),
    4) make sure you have no court/files/summonses etc while your away
    5) Take all your collective leave from that year in february/march (25-30 days will get you a month off depending on roster)
    6) take following years leave at start of april, this will give you another 30 odd days.
    7) back to work around may with absolutely no leave for the year :(
    8) working for toil
    But its worth it :D

I've been tempted by that approach, DJ. I just can't imagine myself surviving eleven months without being able to take leave on those earlies..

I hate getting out of bed :D.

Do the IPA and the garda holiday/travel club not do all those trips away to the st patricks day parades around the world and the likes of the world police & fire games, etc... You may not get a couple of months off in a row but i bet you can see alot of the world in a good few years.

That travel club aint great in my opinion, over priced and you dont get enough return for it!

Dj - i was thinkin it would take something like that to do it alright. It sounds like hard work but hey, 3 months sounds good! :)
